I'd like to start by saying, anyone who relies on either traps or turrets to win a battle, or defend their army is asking for trouble.
Turrets, while much more powerful than a trap, can only be relied upon to take out around 20k prestige max and when dealing with a large army, this really makes no difference.
Traps on the other hand, are completely useless. On the rare occasion that you come across a lv 10 trap, and you clear it, what do you think the defender will likely spend their resources on? Upgrading more traps, or rebuilding their army you just destroyed? And to suggest that the convince skill is worthwhile? thats ridiculous!!! Anytime I come across a trap, I am sure to hit the city a second time to destroy any of the traitors that were convinced to join the enemy! By trapping my inf, you merely give me more prestige to eat!
Anyone on this thread who suggests it useful to build traps due to people sending cats alone is giving a false sense of security to the trap builder. Ive been playing Haypi for 6 months and have yet to be attacked by cats alone. Anyone who would do that is foolish!
Turrets, meanwhile, at least guarantee to destroy a certain amount of troops, theres no way for the enemy to get around it. even with a meatshield, or a huge cav army, they are gonna lose anywhere from 10k-20k prestige worth of troops. And even with that, if the defender is losing an army of 40k or more, the turrets arent really saving much as you will still lose 20k-30k pres (or more) AND your troops!
The only real value turrets have are to defend against small armies of 20k pres or less, which you bait by leaving a few thousand cats or inf out for a target. Against a strong opponent, you better not rely on them.
Now one could argue that a turret thats backed up by a huge army is quite deadly, and theyd be right, especially against a cav army, but the same can NEVER be said about a trap.
Hahahahah! I specialize in razing lv10 turrets! I will jump to a city just to knock them down, even if theres no troops there, just cuz I like to show people they cant stop me.
End result......Turrets, near useless.....Traps, even more pointless!
Now that said.....I still have yet to read why in the world ballaz would proclaim that traps are better than turrets. Perhaps, in the interest of this thread you've started, you might enlighten us, ballaz?
P.S.
In the interest of the education of this forum, there is one, and only one reason i would ever build a trap (and it only needs to be lv 1).
Having a trap, unlike turrets, means that the enemy may only advance as far as the trap in one turn. This means, after all is said and done, a trap on each rank of the city wall will add another 30 seconds to the time of the battle.
Why is this useful?
3 traps laid in such a manner will guarantee a battle time of 2 minutes, at least. This makes it possible for you to accurately time an ambush of the attackers troops when they return home from their assault with your reserve troops, or an alliance members troops.
This tactic is not for the beginner, however. It requires an in depth knowledge of how quickly the ambushers army can move and will usually require coins for a jump, making it rather expensive if the plan fails. It is definitley a strategyu you will want to have rehearsed and put into place well before you are attacked, so that when it happens, you and the ambusher are on the same page, and fully understand how the plan will go down.
