Ol' Caps' Map- Hypai Adventure Entry from shewolf90
It was morning, or almost so. The sun had just begun to raise its sleepy head from its celestial slumber; painfully slow as if it was not eager to begin its long trek accross the sky. The tempature was cool, the air salty, and the fish shops and trading warehouse windows glimmered with the reflection of pinks, golds, and purples intertwining over the horizon. The people too, whom lived and survived by the sea in this Hypai Port, began to stir lazily amoung the ships.
Walking along the familiar sea-weathered wooden docks, morning fog swirled around your boots and left clinging beadlets of water. Again as every morning after a trading ship reached port, you hear the sailors shouting and growling at each other thru gritted teeth sporting pounding hangovers in the midst of their chores.
" OY! Watch where your thrown' them ropes"
"Quit yer blubberin' and load the damn cargo will ya?"
"The both of you shut it and get a move on!"
You chuckle and quicken your pace. Ol' Cap didnt like a late start. A few moments later you arrive in front of a tiny trading ship and pause, hands on your knees, slightly winded and eyes blinded by the now rising sun. She was a tiny thing hiding easily between the other trading ships, barely listing from port to port but The Pelicans Gullet made Ol' Cap a decent wage for the trouble. As his first mate and only helping hand the profits you earned selling resources after the voyage was barely enough to eat. Yet somehow you manage to scrounge up enough to buy trinkets from the other, larger boat traders.Dreams fueled long ago by the tales of adventures on the high seas while scrambling amoung the docks as a sea urchin, drew you to your odd and sea-faring association to 'Ol Cap . Alongside the ship bobbed the rusting treasure-seeking submirine, although how it managed not to sink every use you didn't know.
"BOY!" came a yell from the Deck above. Groaning and squinting your eyes, a hazy hunched figure shuffled into view and peered over the edge, face casting a shadow on you by the suns glare. "What by the good sea's grace TOOK YOU SO LONG?" For such a small, weathered old man he sure could bellow like sailors half his age and twice his stature. "Cap, just let down the ladder."
Ol' Cap just grunted, stroking his grizzled, steel gray beard and reluctantly roll down the rope ladder. "You know boy," he said, " I'm not sure if you should have this...". The salt-rotted rope sways under your feet as you scramble up the ladder and swing your legs on to deck." Have what? " you ask. 'Ol Cap just smirks, his grin more space than teeth, patting your back with suprising strength for his aged frame and leads you to the helm. As you step into the tiny space, you see on the table a raggedy lambskin map, the squid ink coordinates barely legible. "This, Lad, is yours." 'Ol cap said proudly gesturing at the stained map. Raising an eyebrow, you look from the map to the old seaman beside you, wondering if the salt water and harsh sun had finally taken its toll on him. "Thanks?" you say with questionable drawn out sarcasm, which earns you a hearty cuff on the head. "Its THE Treasure Map you no good small fry... THE MAP.... to the 8 treasures of Hypai??... Rumors say should you find all eight of them a key unlocks the portal to the future.." his voice trails off as you stare hungrily at the map, eyes aglow with the promise of adventure and treasure.....
