Building Branch Cities

In what circumstance is it advised to build a branch city. Obviously at some point you should have all the slots filled but as a new player right around the week old mark is that something that should be considered or should one focus instead on building army and defense of the main city?

Would a branch city heavily benefit me if i was fairly confident of not being attacked?

Re: Building Branch Cities

Branch cities are beneficial as soon as you get them. All the buildings are level one, and you can gain extra prestige from them as each city has its own building upgrade slots and resource supply. So I would advise you to get a branch city as soon as possible.

Have fun! ;)

Re: Building Branch Cities

Great advice, but there'd some things I'd like to add...

There are many factors to consider when deciding where to build your city. One way to look at it is if you build your branches close to your main, it will be realtively easier to defend them as you can quickly and easily dispatch troops as needed between your cities. Downsides may be they are easy for the enemy to find, as all it will take is a quick locate of your name from their map.

Another way is to separate your cities and keep them far from each other. This presents opportunities to reach many points on the map quicker and may offer access to more forts to farm. Downside is that Ot can take a loooooong time to dispatch troops to the city.

Other points to consider....

Are you going to be using coins to teleport your cities often?
Do you or your alliance have enemies that may be looking for your branch cities?
Do you like the clutter of a populated area code, or would you rather your city in a secluded, lonely area on the map?
Do you want to spend your time farming forts, or making prestige hits on other generals?
Do you want to form a stronghold for your alliance, or do you prefer to separate yourself from your teammates cities?

There are many more things to consider, but this should give you some things to think about when building a branch city.

Re: Building Branch Cities

cities are great to use and spread your crop consumption between your cities, that way you arent as likely to lose troops to starvation. you can also use cities that are close to good farms(the city could be 20 minutes from your main city) and could be used to shorten the raid time dramatically with the troops in the sub city, versus sending your main city troops 20 minutes longer than your sub city attack time. make sense?

you can also use sub cities to build more troops(once the city is upgraded more) and will help to double the size of your army and crop output.

BASICALLY, BUILD A CITY OR CONQUER ONE, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

if you want to use your city as a sub- base for your army, build it away, from your city but within 20 minutes, otherwise the travel time for your army between the two cities, will take ages. ALSO, if you are using your city for resources, and just to hold troops, build it really, really, close to your main city.

Re: Building Branch Cities

i use my branch cities as staginggrounds for my troops b4 fully upgrading them by only focusing on upgrading the crop output in the beginning so i can hav a bigger army there while i wait for the other resources to catch up. so far the strategy has worked pretty well for me.

Re: Building Branch Cities

that strategy works well, until you have to start fighting off large armies.... like metafly used to have. thats when you have to start making troops faster and more effective. so now, the question(that is completely off topic to this thread) is how do we make making troops more effective?

Re: Building Branch Cities

By effective I take it you mean efficient.

By my reckoning one could build at most per 20 hours and per city:

1278 cats
Or
12,780 inf
Or
3144 cav
Or
6390 archers

To reach these numbers of production, you would have to spend coins, but with hard work and diligence, you can easily produce that many cats without spending coins and come close to the numbers on the other units as well.

What I do, is using my knowledge of the server map, I place 2 branches and my main in an area that has access to over 65 forts of lv7 or less within 10 minutes of my cities. An army is constantly farming these forts, even while my build slots are full.

I then have 3 branches located in the area of the map with the highest concentration of lv10 forts. When finished filling both Warehouse and production slots in the first set of cities, I send my troops to the second set of cities to farm the lv10's which provide a very quick full warehouse.

With my 6 cities, I can easily build upwards of 7k cats/20 hours, without using any coins. At my level, I believe this is good for around 40k prestige or so. Not a bad take for farming alone.

Clearly there are days where you will not be farming at your full capacity, but if you were to do so, it is imperative that there enough a)forts to plunder b)enemy cities to plunder nearby your cities

Edit: I'd like to add that the forts are even more important because they will most often regenerate their resources much quicker than an enemy city will.

Re: Building Branch Cities

hm...... u shld build branches asap.....
1. You gain more resource
2. wider influence of farming etc
3. more troops
4. more prestige

If u build a branch u should think about this:

Wanna make it a hunt city?
--> search in 400:450 or something, there are lovely peaceful places to hunt

Wanna attack players?
You should think bout buulding it on the other side of map, where other players are so, in beste case, u can get twice as much prestige

Wanna gain more resource for main city (shouldnt do that)
mustnt be near main city because transports are VERY VERY fast
