Protection period question

I know you lose your protection at 3rd Level Baron but what does that equal? Is General level three a 3rd Level Baron or is is level 6 or what? The titles confuse me. I want to upgrade but I don't want to lose my protection status since I am noob. Thx in advance for help!

3rd Barron is Level 4.
