I've had a handful of hunts that have netted 11-19k and believe it or not, each of them has been in low level oasis' with under 4k troops for under 6 hours.

lucky u must have a good army my army sucks only 2k infantry and some cats

usally cavs and inf do the best

I hate you right now lol....my hunters suck =/ i think my soldiers are fat and lazy, they eat too much

It's usually split into Inf&cats. My hunts aren't usually for the purposes of hunting, but to keep them out of my cities so I don't bother setting up good hunting builds.
It all comes down to luck in the end. I think the only 100% certainty in hunting is that the oasis needs to have NOT been hunted in for a while to net a good return.
That's not to say you definitely will get a good return if it hasn't been hunted, but you definitely WON'T if it has.

well i know 3 of my infantry are hunting alien things

but they r no help any more i need more alien troops lol

lately ive been hunting in oasis far away and im getting round 5k per hunt

lol no I see what you are saying, just gotta be careful where you hunt to try and maximize your reward
