mail bug

So i recieved letters from my friend who is retired but i forgot to check for it and other letters came so my friend letter was being pushed down.When I have the time to check it,I opened mail box and my friend mail is dissapear.Eventhough the mail boxes isn't full.How can i get my friend letter back?
