Just do away with the 1x speed altogether! it doesnt really help new players get used to the game. If anything it just annoys everyone once they hit 12 and see the difference.

Agreed.
I have had several PALs that quit before reaching Level. 12 simply because it's too boring & slow to play on 1x Speed.
