What are some good build for scythe?

Hi, I just got my girl scythe...finally...

So I'll start breeding tmr after I finish my trunky.

If I get a resurrect scythe, what would be a good build?

I also want a def-boost scythe, what is a good build for him then?

But casting both sandstorm and pod will make him lose two turns?

Would it be better to just use one? Pod or sandstorm?

Re: What are some good build for scythe?

I'd suggest replacing either sandstorm or PoD with another attack. My Scythe has Massive Boulder, Matyrdom, Boulder and PoD, with the talent Resurrect. My reasoning is that the opponent is too slow to do anything about your defense reduction, anyway, so you can just spam Massive Boulder (or Matrydom to get rid of Smiter/Cygness). You just have to watch out for Pewgways with Shun or anything with water jets/smack. Massive Boulder will two hit almost anything, although you might want to get opponents like Behemoth and PoD casted Flights to suitably low amounts of health with Boulder before finishing them off with Massive Boulder. This ensures that the defense reduction does not put you into too much of a pickle with them. =)

@wingtun how well does your scythe build perform in ladder? im curious because I am almost done breeding my scythes. in ladder ai is sometimes not very intelligent and would do suicidal moves often...

@pizymisa

this is from swiftdeath from another thread - very similar to wingtun's scythe except it uses sandstorm instead of pod:

Monster: Scythe

Strategy: Immortality
Talent: Resurrect
Item: Iron Shield / Any Healing Potion
Skill: Sandstorm, Martyrdom, Massive Boulder, Boulder

Alternate:
PoD - Change either Martyrdom for prolonged battle, increased dodge w/ Sandstorm and buffed-up STATs w/ PoD should strike fear on your opponents! If not, you can go and change Boulder to deliver devastating Martyrdom on enemy monster you are at a disadvantage

Self-sacrifice - In case Martyrdom is not yet available you can always go w/ the lesser skill. Though this maybe an Intermediate skill this should still pack a wallop!

Notes:

1. Healing Potions shall enable Scythe to Resurrect 3x at most!
2. PoD & Sandstorm would cripple Water & Electric monsters w/ increased dodge rate, additional end-of-turn damage and buffed-up STATs
3. A very good lead and able to stand-alone and eliminate at least 2 monsters on your enemies line-up on average
4. Iron Shield to add additional defense on ladder, since Scythe already outruns almost all monsters it is elementally weak to

This is an excellent skill set!

My one is very similar, except that I have Earthquake instead of Boulder. The reasoning behind this is that in the ladder tournament, my Scythe (sometimes) uses Boulder instead of Massive Boulder, even during Sandstorm.
I don't cast Sandstorm myself but that's only because my opponents tend to have this skill in abundance and it would almost always be active when I use my Scythe.
In PvP, this skill set is excellent. Some people may opt for Sandstorm instead of Power of Darkness, though. Personally, I find that Power of Darkness is better as an all around move. Most of the monsters that I can 1 hit KO with either Massive Boulder uses magical attacks so I'm not really at risk from the defence decrease. Earthquake takes care of the rest and it's pretty good for 2v2. Martyrdom takes care of the grass/water types.

Good luck!

Re: What are some good build for scythe?

I used to think marytr , mb,sandstorm, pod, res build was good.

However my experience is mb x2 , sandstorm, pod is much more effective in ladder.

With this build you can take out grass water fairly easy. Because on the dodge from sandstorm is rediculous. And AI is stupid. Water / grass types solar or torrent themselves to death against rock types. And since scythe is faster you will get pod in before they get their first torrent and solar smite. Making it hit for very little and then you have two turns after that to destroy them.

Sure martyr will take them out. But that's only one guy. Where as the build w/o martyr will take out alot more guys after you kill that grass.

Also regarding sandstorm and pod taking up two turns. You will have a very very high chance of gaining it back with a dodge. And gaining many more free turns form future dodges.

Ppl don't realize how op sandstorm and blizzard is. The dodge is just rediculous sometimes

Re: What are some good build for scythe?

Several of the top 5 ranked ladder guys on my sever used the non-martyr build above.
Most of the rank 10-100 use the martyr build

Re: What are some good build for scythe?

Lol as I was typing this my scythe on my alt account with that build above just took out an S Fenrir and S Verta and grabbed ranked #1. (With a bit of luck) surpassing the rank of my main account.

My main account doesn't have a pod scythe.

Just speaks to say how OP sandstorm and scythes are.
