I believe you cannot or if you can the possibility is very very low.
I have never seen or heard of a purple synth drop from a crystal chest so I am assuming that we are unable to obtain purple synths from crystal chests.

You definitely can, I have heard of a bunch of people getting multiple purple synths from crystal boxes but never have myself.

Yes, you certainly can get one from a crystal chest but the chances are very low. In over a year I have only ever seen two from a purple chest.
