If you call apple they will tell you no, but if you set up a genius bar appointment and go in theres a good chance theyll replace it for free.

They've given me 3 entirely new phones for free (I dont have insurance or apple care) because of water damage, cracks, or broken whatever. All stuff I did myself. Apple has really good customer service, but you have to actually set up an appointment and go in.

Even if they dont do it for free, they'll give you a quote on the parts.

I've cracked my iphone screen twice and they replaced it in-store for free. They'll ask you a bunch of questions; just tell them you didn't drop it or throw it or anything. It's probably harder for them to say no if you're in the actual store. It's a common problem and they can switch in a new screen in 5 minutes.
