Cav vs. Cats

This isn't a debate over which unit is better, frankly that depends on your skills attributes and playing style. Instead I have some questions about an actual battles between them. Cats will not be attacked when moving backwords. Other than attempting to time your jump right or just plowing ahead and hoping you win, is there a way for cav to win? I use a mostly cat army and would like to know what another player will try to do.

Re: Cav vs. Cats

there isn't many other options for cavalry units, they usually incur losses and most cav users know. atm there isnt much more you need to know
how do you let people know if your hot cakes are selling well?

Re: Cav vs. Cats

If your tactic is to move as forward as you can with your cats, in order to take advantage of their defensive ability, What he's gonna do is send a bunch of archers along side his cav.
He's gonna let your cats move twice before he does, and then on turn 3 his archers, using their speed will move forward and get first strike on your cats. Therefore, you must make sure not to let your cats slip into range, once they are, you're likely losing.
The reason he uses archers is cuz they get first Strike against you, as opposed to his cats which would attack after your cats hit him. Even so, you may find someone using cats. While more difficult for him to gain pres efficiently, he will force you to attack his cav or cats by letting them both come into range at the same time.
Meatshields are pretty useless in a situation where cav have long range support, but can be useful nonetheless in forcing a draw where no one moves forward......

Re: Cav vs. Cats

Moving cav forward on the 1st turn would be effective, no? That would only give the cats two turns to kill the cav, instead of 3 or 4 rounds.

Re: Cav vs. Cats

That would not be effective if the poster is using meatshields, but it would be the only option if the poster was attacked by a monocav army. Against cats, a prudent cav general would not attack without long range support (that is, if he wants to max his pres gain...)

Remember, the poster is using cats and wants to know what a cav army might do against him on the battlefield in order to beat his cats.

Edit: just realized you are the original poster, strikeman. Basically, unless the guy has enough cav to withstand your cats hitting twice, and still have enough to take your cats in one turn after that, AND gain pres after all those casualties, he won't attack you with mono cav.....he'll bring either archers or cats to deal with you moving backwards. And when you see those ranged units, you're gonna need to do quick math to decide whether you are strong enough to beat him, or if you need to hunt.

Another edit: I am taking for granted, of course, since you use mostly cats, that you have a few of each other unit to use as a meatshield vs cav. Remember when meatshielding that if an archer shield comes into range of another ranged unit, it will be counterattacked and therefore ineffectual as a shield.

Re: Cav vs. Cats

I use mostly cats but do have several thousand of each of the other unit types, and you are right that a battle involving straight cats and straight cav is unlikely. I should have asked a more relevant question, but I'm a fan of hypotheticals.
