Are expert nominations relevant?

I just want to list S83 as an example. Please let me know what you have observed. If it is the same or completely different.

Plenty of people have been nominated as experts in s83. None of them have been made an expert. Instead we have gotten 2 people who are experts on other servers. The one expert is sometimes around, the other I have seen play for only a few days, and that was a few weeks ago.

Now the nominations have been often made by alternate accts or alliance friends, which either way can't be counted right. I don't remember that we have gotten the letter to nominate people for experts.

Also in S83 most of the people that were nominated aren't even playing, or aren't world chat active.

yeah the nominations are a bit of a shambles. but don't worry, support would definitely do background checks on nominees before making them expert. Usually they send out the letter to nominate experts however occasionally they don't. And about imported experts, some are good, however some tend to focus on their main server way more than their new server.

We take both nomination and background research into consideration. When a new server is opened, we tend to assign a current expert to that server to help us monitor chat.

depends how many alot is... is it more than 10 nominations or 20 nominations...

i trawled through the nominations since january 1st 2011
heres the results

uranos = 9
yodac =7
complicate=11
arythy =14
k2=6
sky=6

now i see them as quite alot of nominations particularly for arythy so why arent they being given to those obviously seen as deserving

Re: Are expert nominations relevant?

i believe you are looking at forum noms,right? i think support also tries to pick people who have never made mistakes or at least have a past without any marks on it. they want people with good, clean, haypi backgrounds.

i think they also take in to consideration how much you participate in nominations, and i also believe they want CURRENT experts to be the ones who become mods. i think that is the biggest factor.

Re: Are expert nominations relevant?

I know many people who started out making mistakes or getting on haypis bad side. If i remember correctly, goldenricos article competition or some other writing competition was about how much against haypi he was or something like that. (I may be wrong on this)

But i know a lot of experts who did some pretty crazy stuff before they got expert, so that doesnt make much of a difference in my experience with how haypi chooses them.

I wish more people were mods, the forums would be much more cleaner rather than just having rico and the occasional appearance of support. Plus if any of that spamming happens again chances are we wont have to deal with it for HOURS before someone comes in and deletes the posts :P

Re: Are expert nominations relevant?

i would just like to point out, that although it is an honor for them to be mods, and they worked hard for it, i think you should at least get on a mod a few hours a week. but i would say more than half of the global mods dont even get on for an hour a month. some probly dont even play anymore. however, with the exception of support, i think they should still get to keep their mod, but make new mods, so that the forums can be modded again. support are employees of haypi, as far as i understand, so they are probly busy with other issues than petty forum bloops. so, why not get some active forumers to do it?

the question i pose is this: IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE FORUM MODERATORS, THAT AREN'T EXPERTS (yes the title. i believe you can be an expert without flaunting a title around)?
