Betrayal (~~Article Competition by Arythy (3)~~)

Meet Rose. Rose is not unlike you, Nathan; Tracy; Nick; Thomas; Caliee. She commands a city, an army; she is often on World Chat, discussing strategies amiably with her friends; she too does all she can to become the best player in Haypi Kingdom, and enjoys the entire experience on her way to that goal.
Like you, Rose has made allies and companions among the leaders of other cities.
But one morning, Rose, after she had woken up and was about to check her reports, found her most trusted friend had ravaged her city and killed her troops mercilessly.

Surely you have also experienced a traumatizing moment when you find an enemy has destroyed all your hard work -- but to experience such a horror through betrayal by one you have known for so long... it is unimaginable to feel the emotions that would come over you.
Betraying an ally, a friend, is a method of succeeding in a game of war. Using a friendship to put a player in a vulnerable position and using that to your advantage is a strategic maneuver that is often employed in Haypi Kingdom. Betrayal will gain a short-term bonus for you, as you will gain all the prestige and resources you stole from your once-ally.
But betrayal goes beyond the reaches of this, and in fact it is quite detrimental if you should ever commit such an act. For the player, betrayed, deceived, will ever hold you in contempt from then on -- thoughts of revenge not absent from her mind.
Is short term gain really worth the feelings of hatred that will be directed at you?
And are you even aware of the pain that one betrayed goes through? While Haypi may be a game, it is much more to many people. And the players are real people; a betrayal in the game is a betrayal in real life: real pain is felt.

Ultimately your friends will learn of your poor spirited playing, and be desirous of betraying even you; betrayal is truly a double-edged sword. So watch your actions, and keep your friends your friends; for if you betray one you love, the stab in the back you inflicted will return; and you will be the one in pain for what you did.

This drawing is my own, and if you want proof I can send the pencil version of it. (I did the coloring in Photoshop) It goes with the article, and if perchance this ends up in the magazine then it can be placed really anywhere among it. (before, in the middle, at the end, etc.)
