Community Spirit

Sam is an ordinary person; 41, wife, two daughters, factory job and enjoys photography. He isn’t a big shot billionaire, He’s more like you or me than you probably realise. On top of all this Sam is an ordinary Haypi player, he isn’t insanely active, he isn’t inactive he gets along just fine. Sam had friends and relatives in the areas recently affected by the recent earthquake in Japan. I asked him a few question about the events on and after that day

March 12th 2011-an ordinary day that started just like any other but ended in the complete devastation that caused ripples around the world. At 2.46pm local time an 8.9 magnitude earthquake started 231 miles northeast of Tokyo. An hour later the 30 foot high wall of water crashes onto the Japanese coast and washes cars, boats and trains away and causes building to collapse, roads to sever and fires to break out in many locations. By 7.39 the first casualty reports flood into Kyodo news station. A mere 35 minutes later problems are found in various nuclear plants and by 10.30 a problem with the cooling system at the Love plant causes mass evacuations of several thousand people. A day like any other torn apart by Mother Nature!
I was lucky enough to speak with Sam about his experiences on that fateful day.
N. what were you doing when the earthquake struck and how did you know the earthquake had occurred and that a tsunami would shortly follow?
S. I was on medical leave at the time. My wife told me that an earthquake had struck japan, at first I thought it was just a minor earthquake but then I switched on CNN and checked. I am thankful that I and my wife were in an area not affected by the earthquake physically
N. what was going through your mind as the events occurred?
S. I had friends and relatives in the area that was affected I tried to call them and luckily they were able to answer, it was a great relief that both my friends and relatives are now safe. I was also hoping for as few casualties as possible, but was also worried about those who survived the disaster. My thoughts also went to the rescue team and how brave they had been the brave lads had saved many lives that day by risking their lives and being completely unselfish

N. Did you do anything to help those caught up in the earthquake and ensuing events?
S. We are situated a way away from the earthquake but were able to donate some money and send some blankets to a charity group in order to distribute.
N. So how long did it take for you to get on Haypi and start talking to people about it?
S. after I had checked that my relatives and friends were ok I came on Haypi immediately to talk about what had happened to me, it seems heartless but I knew the people that mattered the most to me were safe so I had to continue with daily life
N. How did people on the server react to your news and the earthquake?
S. they were very surprised and everyone was very concerned, they stopped attacking me for a while and over the next few days they asked about it regularly. My fellow players were very kind and it made me so glad.
The question still hanging over japan is what will happen in the future? They must rebuild the east coast infrastructure and revitalise the economy which took a major hit that day. So the community draws together, the people are concerned and the sense of well-being runs right through the heart of the Haypi servers. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to all the people affected by the earthquake and especially to our fellow Haypi players caught up in the tragedy.

With special thanks to Sam09 (s106)

Re: Community Spirit

I heard about this. As a matter of fact, I was on Haypi when it happened. Rest In Peace all those killed and I wish the best to all of te families affected.
Hate. It's a strong word used more often than it should. Spread the love and have a Haypi time
