Ok let me rephrase my question. when the update comes out for idevices how will android or w7 users in an alliance participate in the alliance war without the update? Provided the updates come out at separate times

They probably won't be able to, just like android and windows users couldn't enhance treasure and open silver & gold boxes until they got the update too
