Perhaps you're right....I don't know who I'm trying to kid!
I don't even play anymore.
But I do keep a large enough army that I check on once Every 10 days or so. When I do, it pains me to see all those who left, but I find solace in seeing those faithful that do remain.
Let's wax philosophical for a minute.
Think back to the days before there were even 10 servers. So many people were running around creating alt accts. filling servers, taking space. What happened when a new server was created? Mass exoduses to be the first to rule the noobs. We've all seen it. Rowdy groups from s1 who claimed to be god kings, premade alliances of vets from the old servers jumping on to be the first to top the leaderboards. Wannabe experts reaching for a new oppurtunity for free VIP and the ability to boss others around. And then of course the alts. Hundreds of alts. This I know from experience, even from the hundreds at my own control, not to mention my allies.
And all this leapfrogging until maybe some settle down, or maybe they don't, and what's left in the wake of all this? Decrepit servers that may resemble ghost towns to some. Look no further than the signatures on these posts and you'll find veritable histories of the exoskeleton accts do many have left behind.
S1 banned
S4 inactive
S7 somewhat active
S32-99 inactive
S(whatever the newest one is) active
And here we sit talking about servers dying, friends leaving, and wonder why?
It's not the lack of gameplay and interest that keeps people making those new accts in new servers, but it is the new accts that kill the old servers.
What ever happened to that acct you have that is inactive? Why did you stop using it? Why did you make another? I think these are the real questions, and I believe the answer is that just like we make haypi great, we also kill it. We kill it each and everyone of us who flit about from server to server, a server is a home. A home to many that don't have the luxury of many accts sitting idle. And when those players are left behind, that's when haypi dies and all that's left is us....our forum signatures betraying our unwillingness to commit to a server an make it strong.
