Re: Promoting War

What if the troops were called back from a hunt to defend their base?

That way, people could still hunt and get bonus treasure etc, but people would have every reason to randomly attack peoples bases.

So Player 1 has troops out to hunt.
Player 2 sends troops to attack player 1 base.
Player 1 troops auto-finish hunting, get treasure that is owed.
Player 2 arrives at base to see defending troops.
Battle plays out.

Now, people could/would start sending 1 troop to force troops home, so I suggest an option that allows player 1 to specify that if attacked by less than X troops, do not return.
Eg: if player 1 has it set at 0,0,0,1000, Player 2 would need to send at least 1000 cats to player 1's base before the troops came home.
The upper bound for X troops could be the total number of troops currently owned by Player 1.
--------------------------

That said, I think the main problem with the battle is that it is too easy to have the whole army wiped out with zero loss to the other player.
Recently I took out ~8000 cats with only ~12,000 of my own. Zero loss. Yay for me... but hardly cool for the other player.
The prestige formula is such that they want to encourage lower level players to attack high level players. Higher level players usually have more troops than lower level players, so the way that battle works simply does not allow for the purpose of the prestige formula to work.

To my example above: if it was the other way around, if I had 8k cats, I would NEVER attack someone with 12k cats (i know that speed and range play a part, but after ~lvl12 most people are around the same levels of tech)... why? because I have pretty much zero chance of winning.
If I cant wear down a persons army, the only remaining tactic is to try and starve the army.... but then there goes most of the prestige... and it doesnt encourage a battle.

Re: Promoting War

I could see major problems with this like everyone would be wiped but one person who would wait for people to rebuild a tiny bit and then keep everyone in his areas army kept down,

I don't think this will be implemented. I'd be scared too sleep
how do you let people know if your hot cakes are selling well?

Re: Promoting War

i hit everyone in a 20 min radius in 24 hours they are all dead as my army is quite large. this happens in every area there are a few people left with rroops who now attack each other and eventually it wittles down to just 1 guy

as opposed to what happens now... the top dozen players just build troops and fight nothing. just spend day after day feeding troops every 4-6 hours and scouting scouting scouting with nothing to fight.

Besides, if you were to attack a base, the troops come home an BAM! bigger army, the attacker dies. oops.

Anyway, the whole battle thing is a bit stupid as mentioned above. It doesnt promote attacking a stronger player _at all_.

Re: Promoting War

The way to promote war is to
1. Have a maximum hunt time possibly 24 hours this would give player something to think about on a daily basis. To allow user to go on holiday the no war time would have to have a 2 week and three week option still costing coins though.
2. Allow sub cities to be destroyed say over a 48 hour period 20 attacks when you don’t have the space for an additional sub
3. Down grade building on attacks with each successful attack their buildings go down by on i.e. one of your wood slots would go down on the first attack one of your crop slots would go down on the second attack etc.

I think these would defiantly make war more likely

Re: Promoting War

wow these are some great ideas. i think the hunt idea should be 48 hours though as 24 is slightly too short a time period.

i dont like the idea of my perfectly named subs being destroyed but if it promotes war ill cope aand just steal more subs

Re: Promoting War

You have to agree that it would prompt you to defens rather than ignoring the attacks
