24 Hour Time Limit on Market Sales

The market always makes a slow slide into becoming worthless to generate income... the main reason is people attempting to sell 100,000 or even more ridiculous amounts and plugging up the market with items that will NEVER sell. Not wanting to be stuck on the 4th page of sales, players are forced to sell at ever decreasing prices.

To stop the insanity and restore some usefulness to the market, I propose a 24 time limit on resources put up for sale in the market. After 24 hours, the resources are returned to the player's warehouse or dumped if the warehouse is full.

Also, The market should not be used as a safe storage place for resources.

I completely agree, the unlimited time on the market that is the current setting allows users to put up ridiculous amounts of resources at ever decreasing prices, if a time limit was enforced then the price would go up and the amount of resources in each sale will decrease to reasonable amounts.

I agree with both of them. It takes too long to gain money from the market and the propose idea would fix that.

This is a wonderful idea, the only problem is, if the players work hard to get and sell these resources, then I find it unfair that they're just dumped. So it's a waste of resources. A lot of people sell max resources in the market a few times over. As we all know a warehouse can't hold max of each resource X3.

This plan just won't work when it comes down to it.

TheTardis sums it up well.

Also a 24 hour limit is bad in my opinion as people who are on a schedule might be on at a certain time each day and could be an hour or even a few minutes late taking care of their sells on the Market. Loosing all of that over minutes would be extremely unfair. If such a limit was enacted it should be at least 48 if not 72 hours.

However, this does not address TheTardis' point. I do agree it is a problem. I am just not convinced this is the right solution.

Perhaps a system more like a bank or stock market might work better? Instead of selling to players you would sell to a holding house and supply and demand would dictate market price. Everyone would buy and sell at the current market price. Sellers would continue to pay a 10% fee.

Thoughts?

This is a very poor idea.

If you had a limit on the amount of time you could have resources on the market for ... what do you think would happen?

Everyone would sell LOWER than they already are so they were guaranteed a sale within 24 hours.

The market is the way it is because it is based on supply only, not supply & demand.

People are able to gather more and more resources, so the price goes down and down and the amounts sold go up.

If you take a look at the markets on Evony, you'll see how offering two prices (a buying & a selling rate) helps keep the relationship between supply and demand equal ... and the prices fluctuate, rather than march down incessantly.

Personally, I quite like the lowered market :P

When two hunts in one day return gems ... that's a lot in equivalent wood ;)

To a certain extend, yes I agree. However, even though the market is meant to sell and buy stuff that you need. It should be used as a safe storage, if and only if, you are going to retrieve it back the next day when you get on to spend on upgrading (this is to prevent being farmed and having your resources taken away while sleeping and be less attracted and they will just pass by you). I do this every day. set the high price on my resources when i need it the next day. I then have enough to spend on productions. Workers takes care of that, if you have not enough workers, then you can't put max into it.

But the maximum time is a good idea, this way if nobody buys it, it comes back straight to your city.

24 hours is too short of a timeframe for this to be plausible.
I do agree however that there should be a time limit. Maybe a week?
This would give adequate time for the resources to sell.
I'd be willing to be, on the lower servers at least, that is the low price on a resource is 0.03, that 90% of all resources up for sale between 0.05-0.24 are from inactive players that no longer care.
A timeframe would allow for resources to constantly be renewed on the market and would eventually drive the price UP in the market because a lot of the resources posted up at higher prices would disappear over time. If there were truly a demand, then once all the lower priced good were sold, the newer ones would be at higher rates if the demand was high enough...

I would have to agree with Lord_Phill on this one. It may be frustrating that resource prices only decline and never recover; however the market is based on supply and demand.

For instance, stone is selling on s6 right now for .01. Even sales expired after 24 hours, the new posting would still be for .01 simply because no one uses it and there are too many players selling it. This applies to any resource.

The only way to push up market price is creating a situation where there are limited resources (reduction in oasis or forts) or demand is greater than supply (new war system).
