What does the remaining training mean in the daily reminder it doesn't seem to correspond to the amount of times I train in a day.

that's for the number of trainings that you have for the gold coins. you get a number of daily trainings (depending on your vip level) using gold coins - that's like 60k monster exp with only 1 minute cool down. you find that at the topmost portion of the training page.

This is right but just to say also:
The monster EXP depends on your account level. The 1 minute cool down has been reduced to just 10 seconds - since version 1.3.

It does depend on your VIP level (how many sped up daily trainings you can have). At VIP 5, I can have 3. The first costs 1 gold coin, the second 2 and the last 4. Personally, I always use my first one as I find it very useful for raising my monsters but if you plan on saving your gold coins, you should stay away from this as the experience you get from this is equivalent to a bit more than 2x the 4 hour training.
