I don't believe your thinking through your argument bro.
Yes, cats are powerful, yes they're shiny also, but they're also a pain in the neck to maintain and aren't guaranteed to win a given battle. In fact, cat vs cat is a crapshoot, usually the luckiest general wins that battle, not the most skilled. Observe what lucky strikes do to cat armies:

Cats build faster than any unit, in terms of power and pres/build. Even so, the bigger you build your cat army, the harder it is to feed, especially compared to other units. With a lv20 barracks, you may build per city in 24 hours:
-3928 inf- 3928 crop/hr
-2477 arc- 4954 crop/hr
-1661 cav- 6644 crop/hr
-1234 cat- 12340 crop/hr
As you can see, after 24 hours of building, cats require 3x more food than inf yet pound for pound, the inf yields 2.5x more power than the cat. In fact, vs cats, inf are 4x stronger! If you can justify the cats usefulness in feeding situations I'd love to hear it.
As for pres gain....you are grossly misinformed, or perhaps just lack the proper experience, but pres gain is phenomenal when using inf. observe:

My rebuild here is around 10 days or so, my opponent needs only 7, if he has an army to farm with or money to buy wood and iron. Additionally, when compared to the ss above (cat vs. cat) in a week and a half I will have gained another 300k pres from rebuilding meaning my pres gain from that battle is similar to the cat victor in his battle. The difference? In the following week he's gonna be waking up at 3am every night to feed etc while my inf build and aren't in any danger of starvation. Not to mention while my opponent rebuilds I'll already have a sufficient army to wipe his rebuilding process, whereas his targets will need to be much smaller.
Now do you see my point? Inf=more power, less crop consumption, great pres gain, less pres loss, less hassle.....I could really go on all night.
