~~Guide to the Haypi Kingdom Forums~~

Welcome to the Haypi Kingdom forums!
NOTES:

1) This guide does NOT cover sections of the forums that were created after Haypi Kingdom. There may be an update coming in the future to include everything that's changed. For now, this still provides the basic information necessary to knowing how to best use the forums, simply without mention of Haypi's newer games.

2) Prosilver is currently deactivated, so for now all references to it are not relevant.

The forums are a great place for collaboration of thoughts and ideas of Haypi, as well as a place to seek help for questions. Yet at first the forums may seem daunting and confusing, a vast spread of knowledge and information that is too complex navigate and utilize easily. Well look no further, for here will your problems be solved!

Despite this thread appearing quite lengthy, taking just 5-10 minutes of your time to look it over will be worth it if it is the first time you are visiting the forums.

If you have any questions that this thread does not answer, please just post your question in a post and I will add the information to the guide if it is relevant.

~~Guide to the Haypi Forums~~

The Basics
(Note: the words “topic” and “thread” can be used interchangeably.)

Table of Contents
1. Logging In
2. Making a New Topic
3. Making a New Post
4. Editing Posts and Topics
5. Deleting Posts and Topics
6. Reporting Posts
7. Quoting Posts
8. Types of Threads
9. Read and Unread Posts
10. Search Bar
11. Jump To

Logging In
The first and sometimes the trickiest thing to do when visiting the forums for the first time is to log in. To do this, look at the top of the screen, and next to the “FAQ” and “Register” links, click “Login.” Don’t worry if you’ve never logged into the forums before, you cannot register by clicking the thus-labeled link; the only way to register is through making a Haypi Kingdom account on your iPod, Android, or WP7. So when you are in the login screen, simply type in your Haypi Kingdom username and password that you made for task 5, and you will be logged into the forums. [Note: There is currently a bug with the forums in which it automatically logs you off upon logging in, and to fix this you must select the “Log me on automatically each visit” checkbox each time you log in.]

Making a New Topic
Make sure you are in a section of the forums in which the next smallest level are topics and which is not locked. Scroll to either the top of the list of topics or the bottom, and select “NEWTOPIC” (if you do not see this button where it should be, then you are either in a locked section or not inside a section at all; the "sections" that are referred to are the same as listed in the Quick Navigation part of this guide). You will see a “Subject” box and a larger text box. Type in the subject box what you want people to see when they click to view your topic. In the larger box below, type the content of your topic. When you have finished and are ready to post the topic, click the “Submit” button; the Preview button will be discussed in section 1.6, and the “Save” button is irrelevant except in long topics that require much thought and time. Here is an example:

Making a New Post
To make a post on the forums, be sure you are in a topic that is not locked. Locked means that a Forum Moderator (see section 1.4) has made it so no more posts can be added to the thread and no existing posts can be edited. Scroll to the bottom or top of the page and click “POSTREPLY.” As with a new topic, you have a subject text bar and a place for the text in your post. In this case, however, it is best to not change the Subject text, as it automatically has it as “Re: Thread X,” which is the regular way to title a post. Players will be more likely to see what your post says if you type it in the regular content box rather than the Subject box. When you have finished and are ready to post the reply to the topic, click the “Submit” button; the Preview button will be discussed in section 1.6, and the “Save” button is irrelevant except in long posts that require much thought and time.

Editing Your Posts and Topics
When you make a post and reread it after posting it, sometimes you may want to change something within that post. To do this click the button that says “EDIT,” to the left of the Delete, Report, and Quote buttons (discussed in next sections of the Basics), which is in the top right of your post (at the bottom for default CA Black style). When you do so, it will bring you to the screen that you see when you make a new post, only the Subject and content of the post will already be there. Edit as needed, and click “Submit.” If you post multiple times instead of editing your original post, some players will get annoyed at you; so make sure you take full advantage of the edit button! Lastly, if you edit your post before another user has made a post after yours on the same thread, your post will not say at all that you ever edited it; however if another post has been made after yours and you edit it thereafter, it will display to all viewers when it was last edited as well as how many times it has been edited.

Delete Button
In the top right of a post (or at the bottom for default CA Black style), next to the Edit button, there will be an x. If you wish to delete your post, simply click it and all its contents and evidence it ever existed will disappear, however you cannot delete a post if someone has posted after that post in the same thread.

Report Button
If you find somebody on the forums violating any of the Haypi Rules, click the “!” where it will give you 4 options to choose from of the category of the broken rule, as well as a “Further Information” textbox for you to provide additional information about the incident if you wish to do so.

Quote Button
Right next to the Report, Delete, and Edit buttons is a button that says “Quote.” Clicking this will bring you to the screen with which you make a post, but when you click Submit, there will be a box above your text that quotes exactly what the post which you quoted says. This function is ideal for replying directly to a post when it is not necessarily the most recently posted one in the thread.

Types of Threads
When you make a thread, it will be just a regular thread; this appears, when looking at the link to the thread in the section it is in, as a circle with text within it. There will be some threads that have symbols in the shape of a light bulb; these are called stickies. Stickies will always stay at the top of the given section of the forums. You may also see topics with an i inside a circle as its symbol; these are called announcements which are always above stickies in the given section of the forums. Any thread that has a lock in its symbol means it is locked, and no further posts can be made in that thread. A small black circle (or a small red star in prosilver) will appear in the corner of a thread you have posted in.

ImageUnread Topic
ImageRead Sticky
ImageUnread Sticky
CA Black

ImageUnread Sticky

Read and Unread Posts
While you spend time on the forums you will notice topic symbols to be either light blue or yellow (red or blue in prosilver theme). A light blue (or red) symbol signifies that you have not read the most recent post in that topic, and a yellow (or blue) shows that you have. To mark all topics as read, you can go to the Board Index and select that option, which appears right above the box that links to the "Haypi Kingdom" category. This is discussed further in section 1.7.

Search Bar
When you need to find specific parts of a thread fast and do not want to scroll through each individual post to find what you are looking for, you can use the search bar at the top of the thread you are in. The system will search for the words you type in every post in the thread, and display all the posts that contain what you searched for, as well as the search term itself highlighted in the displayed posts.

In addition, you can do the same thing for all posts in the entire forum by using the search bar at the top of the screen. This feature will be on every page of the forums, and is an invaluable tool for finding what you need.

Jump To
At the bottom of any thread you may be on, there will be a bar with an arrow that says the current section you are in; if you click on this bar, a menu will come up. This menu contains every single section and subsection of the Haypi forums in a straightforward list. This feature will allow you to quickly navigate from a thread you are in to any other part of the forums. A possible downside to the feature is the fact that it does list everything, thus each server's Expert nomination section and "Haypi Kingdom World" takes up as much space on the list as, say, General Discussion; so it could be a little time-consuming if the section you wish to view is below all those server-specific sections.

~~Guide to the Haypi Forums~~

Roles
While you are roaming the forums, you may notice several things: players posting may have different colored names next to their posts or a different word under their names and profile pictures than yourself.

Colors of Usernames
Red - A red username applies only to the Administrators of the forum, who work directly for Haypi, Inc. Ltd.

Light Blue/Teal - These users are Forum Moderators. These are composed of excellent Experts from the game servers, and you yourself can nominate forum users to be Forum Moderators here.

Orange - These users are Experts on an in-game server. You can nominate players to be Experts here on the appropiate Server's thread.

Yellow (in CA Black style [Default])/Dark Blue (prosilver style) [note: these styles will be discussed in section 1.5] - Forum users with names in this color are regular players who have logged into the forums at least once. This is the color that you will find your own name when starting out on the forums, unless of course you first log in as an Expert.

White - Users with white usernames have been banned.

Titles Beneath Usernames
When you first start out in the forums, beneath your name will be the word “Newbie.” However, by posting more your title will change at certain post count milestones. These titles are called ranks. The numbers of posts for certain ranks are as follows:

Posts.....Rank
0.....Newbie
30.....Beginner
80.....Citizen
150.....Baron
300.....Marquis
600.....Veteran
950.....Conqueror
1350.....Lord
2000.....Warlord
3000.....King
Forum Moderator.....Elite

(Accuracy limited to knowledge of current post counts of users with thus many posts)

~~Guide to the Haypi Forums~~

User Control Panel
You can access many settings and other useful tools via the User Control Panel. It is found at the top left of your screen while logged in right beneath “Board Index.”

Table of Contents
1. Drafts
2. Profile
3. Signature
4. Avatar
5. Global Preferences
6. Display Preferences
7. Posting Preferences
8. Private Messaging
9. Friends and Foes

Drafts (Overview -> Manage Drafts)
If you have ever clicked “Save” in a post rather than submitting it, you can find it here.

Profile (Profile -> Edit Profile)
Here you can edit personal information, such as messaging service addresses, your website, location, occupation, interests, and birthday. None of this information is required to fill out; the location you enter will be displayed next to each post you make, under your username and profile picture.

Signature (Profile -> Edit Signature)
In the box of text provided, you can write up to 255 characters of anything you want that will be displayed below the text of every post you make. BBCode can be used here, which will be discussed in section 1.6. Often players may not look at the name of the player who made a post, so a memorable signature can let regular users know who made the post just off a glance.

Note: you can add an image to your signature like this:
  Code:
[img]http://YourImagesURLHere.com[/img]

Avatar (Profile -> Edit Avatar)
Your avatar is the image that can be displayed beneath your username in every post you make. The limit for pixels in the image you can use is 90x90. You may wish to upload an image directly from your computer, however you need to use a link to a pre-existing image on the web. A way to actually upload your own picture, however, is to go to ImageShack, where you click “Browse,” select the file of the right dimensions that you desire, and click “Upload Now;” from the page that subsequently loads, copy the “Direct Link” box that it gives you and paste it into the link box in your Control Panel. You can leave the dimensions boxes unchanged as long as your image is at most 90x90 pixels, as it will automatically fill them in once you click Submit.

Global Preferences (Board Preferences -> Edit Global Settings)
Here you can edit important information about privacy and other settings of the forums; you can also change the style of the forums in this place: under “My board style,” you can choose a style from the drop-down menu. The default is CA Black, however you may change it to prosilver, which generally makes the forums white, blue and orange.
How to change from CA Black to prosilver
Image

Posting Preferences (Board Preferences -> Edit Posting Defaults)
The options that your are given at the end of every post you make (enable BBCode, attach signature, and enable smilies) are all included in this menu to choose your default settings for each specific option.

Display Preferences (Board Preferences -> Edit Display Options)
This part of the Preferences section lets you choose what you see in all posts; if you wish or do not wish to see signatures or avatars, smilies or images, then you may choose to enable or disable the ability to see them here.

Private Messaging (Private Messages)
If you wish to send a message to another player in private (so that no other may see it), use this part of the Control Panel. You can send a message to any player you choose, and you submit it just as if it were a post on a thread. If you have received a message, you can see it in your Inbox. All the messages that you have sent out will appear temporarily in the Outbox, then transfer to the Sent Messages folder once the player to whom you sent the message has checked his or her inbox. The settings for Private Messaging are mainly aimed at when one of your folders fills up with messages; the default setting is that it will not accept anymore, but you can change it so that it goes to another folder or deletes the oldest messages. You can create a new folder as well from this interface.

Friends and Foes (Friends & Foes)
This is just alike to the friend and ignore list from in-game, however you will still see posts from users on the Foes list. Add players to the list you wish and they will then be your “Friend” or “Foe.”

BBCode

You may be wondering how some people make words in different colors, put images in their posts, bold or underline text, or link to pages without displaying the link itself. Well this is all from the use of BBCode, a simple forum language that allows features like these to be in posts.

Preview Button

At the end of any post or topic you make, you will see the “Preview” button. This does nothing except show you exactly what you have already typed (as well as smilies), until you incorporate BBCode. When you use BBCode, it will show the effects of the code on your post.

How to Make the Best Use of the Forums
    (Suggestions and ideas welcome!)

    Use the prosilver Theme
It is very helpful to change the theme through which you view the forums to prosilver; that way, when you are on the forums you will know simply by the colors you see whether you are logged in or not (if you are not it will display the CA Black style).

Finding Active and Recently Posted on Threads
If you are just around to see what is going on in order of active threads, there is a very easy way to find them: head over to the board index, and above the tab with the Forum Category "Haypi Kingdom" on it you will see several links.

View unanswered posts • View unread posts • View new posts • View active topics

      1. Unanswered posts will give you a list of topics that have 0 responses to the first post.

      2. Unread posts will show all the topics in the forums that you have not looked at. See section 1.3 for further details of read and unread posts.

      3. New posts will show you all topics, read and unread, that were recently posted on.

      4. Active topics gives a list of the topics that have had recent activity and are not completely dead. (dead meaning nobody ever posting on them again)
