My life, in the great Kingdom of Haypi. :Article Competition

I would like to take you back to where my story begins. It started out with a few small cities, locked in peace by the fear of total destruction. This was until more cities began to arise and the number of potential threats were growing exponentially over night. The Kingdom of Haypi was quickly becoming a dangerous place to be.

Strong alliances, and even stronger friendships were forged as survival was the main priority. Tension was quickly building and eventually got the best of everyone. Battles began to ensue and destruction was everywhere. First, it was for reasons of survival. Croplands were being drained of their resources by armies all across the land. As these croplands would become barren, they were abandoned for more fertile fields. Such fields were eventually scarce and we all had to learn to spread out across many smaller fields just to survive.

Military might was very important, but sheer numbers meant nothing without the proper training and technology. We had to learn to use our fields more efficiently so that smaller crop fields could still sustain the largest of armies. We began practicing our shooting skills to become accurate enough to attack our enemies from greater distances. Our weapons and armor were improved so that we could create as well as withstand greater amounts of damage. Marching drills were run to improve the way we traversed the battle fields and could cross vast distances in shorter amounts of time. Scouts were trained to spy on enemy cities as well as protect our own borders from enemy spies.

As our cities grew, our buildings needed to expand to accommodate our growing populations. With this population growth came more and more willing to become troops and protect their homes. City walls were erected and included turret towers to take out the enemy as they approached as well as traps to take enemies out as they attempted to breach the walls. Crannies were built to hide our resources from attacking enemies so we could rebuild after a devastating assault.

In short periods of peace, troops would patrol the battlefields and hunt as well as search for lost trinkets and treasures. These treasures would bring with them reasons to trade with others and receive great wealth. This wealth would further be used for research into newer and better technology as well as expansion of our empire into multiple cities.

After decades of war and thousands upon thousands of battles, there are still those seeking the most prestigious of titles, "King of Kings." This will be a grand event! As legend states, the King of Kings will bring upon a new age in Haypi. Lucius new oases will appear that will be able to provide unheard of amounts of resources to those that control them, providing an unimaginable advantage. I can only hope that this day will come soon, and that our first King of Kings will be a benevolent one, bringing us into a new age of prosperity.
