Haypi Article by Tree_Tori

In a tower of glass and steel, a sea of cubicles floats floor by floor. The seemingly endless trains of people pour into metal boxes that convey them to their neat little arrangements. Somewhere among the boxes was a young woman who sat with a slightly dazed expression. It appeared the she was in a trance among the glowing devices that surrounded her bounded by the grey-blue walls of her cubicle.

A shadowy figure loomed over her and sank its icy fingers into her shoulders. She was unaware as the beast passed a wisp of smoke through her ears with a malevolent smile beaming on its face.

As she stared down at her glowing iPhone, another mind-numbing second of work passed by uneventfully. The boredom was eating away at her spirit slowly. The repetitive tasks designated to her detracted from what should be the easy pleasure of accomplishing an assignment.

“Quick! To the App Store!” she thought.

She perused the available Apps under Games, when one stood out from the others. The good reviews and high rating made it undeniably tempting.

“Haypi Kingdom? Well, they may not be able to spell, but I’ll give it a try anyways. Anything is better than sitting here staring at my computer.”

As she began her journey into this new, uncharted territory, something strange came over her. The corners of her mouth began to turn up into what appeared to be a smirk, or a grin. Her eyes lit up and her resources built. A sense of accomplishment washed over her with each task completed. Even the impatience of waiting for building to complete seemed novel and exciting to our intrepid explorer.

As the young woman became more and more engaged the beast railed. He could not stand the sting of her interest. The machinations of her mind proved too taxing for the beast. He could not take hold.

Once vanquished, the beast moved on to easier prey of a co-worker. He diligently worked away with his face slightly gray and ashen. Yes, he would be the perfect prey.
