Haypi for Dummies (article entry)

Alright so this is my third entry but all of them have been different.

Getting Sarted
First off make sure to read the introduction and don't just press ok or next as we always seem to do.
A short read can save you a lot of time trying to figure out how to do the simplest task.
Speaking of tasks, they are the next thing you should do.
Tap the tasks tab and you will find instructions on how to get your city up and running, an be rewarded for completion of the task.
Of course the first thing you're going to want to do is change your name.
Before you do you will have to complete and collect rewards for tasks 1-4.
Task 5 will then become available.
Choose a name, create an account and choose a refer.
Note that the person you refer will get bonuses when you level up.
So choose someone you like.

Joining An Alliance
This is absolutely essential.
Alliances are great in more ways then one but I'll get into that later.
First things first, in world chat there will be ads for a variety of different alliances, chat will be flooded with them.
They will say things like Join Us, Active, Offers Protection, and Were better than everyone else.
It's easy to find an alliance, the hard part is choosing a good one.
Open the rankings tab and look under alliance ranking.
You will want to get in the highest ranking alliance possible.
Ask around chat to see which ones accept players of your level and also ask which ones can help you most.
Now all of them will say their alliance can help you most, it's up to you to find out which ones are true and which ones just want a higher rank and more members.
Now, once you're in a good alliance they should be able to help you by giving advice, protection and just being there, active, when you need them.
If they don't answer your questions and you're calls for help go unanswered, you need to find a new alliance.
Or if you are up to the task you can...

Creating An Alliance
To do this you will need some basic skills.
Leadership, you need to be friendly and know how to be a good leader. Don't force people to join or stay in your alliance, and don't bash other alliances so people will join yours instead.
Make good relations with other alliance leaders so they will recommend your alliance to others.
You will also have to be strong enough to kick players who disgrace your alliance. If they are out in world chat, getting muted, people will see that they are from you're alliance.
Vices, they are the most important part of your alliance.
You're not always going to be online, and if you are you need help.
Vices can accept or kick members when you're not around, manage other alliance affairs and basically keep it all together.
Just make sure you put active and loyal players in this position.

Gaining Prestige
This is what it's all about, prestige.
There are four main ways of getting prestige.
Tasks: Some tasks that you complete will give you prestige.
Training: Training troops will give you a lot of prestige. Note that the more expensive the troop, the more prestige you get.
Upgrading: Upgrading your main and barracks building will give you prestige.
Killing: Killing enemy troops is a great way of getting prestige.
Bravery is rewarded and cowardice is penalized.
Kill troops of a higher level for more prestige. Killing a lower level's troops will get you less prestige.
Note: See hunting for another way to get prestige.

Building A Strong City:
If you followed your tasks you should be well on your way, but here are some more tips for building a city.
For the first seven days, you will have beginners protection.
This will keep you safe from attacks.
Note: Beginners Protection will go away once you reach level 4 or the seven days is up.
Resources are vital, not only can they be used to train troops and sale on the marketplace, but are needed to upgrade buildings.
You will need to upgrade these first. Next on the list is the warehouse, with all your newfound resources, you need a place to put them.
This will allow you to stockpile resources when you go offline.
Then you need to upgrade your main building to supply people to work the fields, fight in the army, and transport resources.
Now I know you've been waiting for it, the barracks.
This while not needed immediately since you cannot be attacked, it's still a good idea to start building an army.
The cranny, again this is not needed immediately, but once you start getting attacked you will want to save your precious resources.
Traps and Turrets are last on the list.
While very good for supporting you army while under attack, don't expect them to hold off an army on their own.
They aren't too expensive but can be destroyed quickly.

Coins and Money
Haypi's in game currency.
Coins, first thing you should know about these is they are very hard to get, and it's probably not a good idea to squander you 30 starting coins on speeding up building upgrades.
These can get you just about anything you want in the Haypi Kingdom, treasure, equipment, resources, alliance maps, money, and you can even move your city.
The catch is the supply is limited. Here are the main ways to get coins:
Purchase: While this is the most effective way to get coins it's going to cost you your money. Real money. No doubt it will make you level quickly, and you have a significant advantage over your enemies.
Note: Excessive purchasing of coins will flag you as a "coiner" or "coin dozer"
Daily Gift: This is all about luck, luckily you can raise your luck in the management tab.
Hunting: Fortune also plays a role in this but you can raise your chances by hunting with more troops and for longer periods of time.
Note: If someone else hunts on the same land as you at the same time you get nothing.
Free Apps: This will probably be your main way of coin getting.
New apps are added frequently and each download will reward you with coins.
Money is a lot easier to get.
Purchase: Money is available for purchase but with coins not real money.
Daily Gift: Daily gifts will most likely give you money.
Hunting: The most common reward for hunting is money.
Selling: You can sell anything from resources, to treasure to get more money.
So what are you going to do with all this money?
You can buy technology upgrades, resources and treasure.

Treasure and Equipment
Treasure, this includes nuggets, gems, medals, scepters and crowns.
Although they don't give you anything, they are requirements for raising your title. They can also be sold for a decent sum.
Equipment, thus includes armor, swords, horses, manuals and rings.
Each one of these will raise a certain stat.
Again these can be sold.

Attribute and Skill Points
Attribute points raise, um your attributes.
Attack, Defense, Speed, and Fortune.
Skill points raise, that's right you guessed it, your skills.
Unlock Chest, Hidden Attack, Heal, Convince and Break Cranny.
Note: these points can only be gained by leveling up and can be reset at the cost of coins.

Oasis, Forts, and Branch Cities
These three things make up your kingdom.
Oasis boost production rates for your resources. Wood increases wood, crop increases crop and you can figure out the rest.
There is a limit on how many you can have.
Divide your level by two and that's how many oasii you can have.
Note: You may need to round
Oasis are guarded by NPC troops.
The higher the level of the oasis the more troops guard it.
I'm too lazy to post a ratio of level to troops, thats where your alliance can help you out.
Forts, they basically work the same way as oasis instead they give you money per hour.
Oh and they dont decrease in level like the oasii do (oasis will decrease one level per day until they reach zero and you will lose the oasis)
Divide your level by 3 and that's how many forts you can have considering you rounded.
Branch cities, they are cities.
They work just like your main except you can name them.
You can build one branch each time your title changes names.
Example: Citizen to baron.

Hunt
Hunting is very useful.
Not only is it a good way to get money and other items, it can be used to save your troops from a higher level player who wants your prestige.
Make sure to always hunt your troops before closing the app.
Number of troops, time, and fortune all effect what your hunts get you.
Also infantry are the best unit for hunting as they can carry a larger load.
Note: it has been said that the type of oasis and it's level also is a factor but it is unconfirmed.
You can hunt anything from money to treasure. The only thing you can't hunt is resources.

Scouting
Scouting will give you information on a city, fort or oasis.
Always scout before attacking, it will save a lot of heartache.
If your scout level isn't very high it will use vague terms to describe the amount of troops.
Several, Dozens, Scores, One or Two Hundred, Hundreds, One or two Thousand, thousands.
They aren't too difficult to figure out, but you can always ask your alliance for exact amounts.

Farming
Farming is the repeated attacking of a player of a lower level than yourself for resources.
This is considered a dirty tactic and while it's not against the rules it's frowned upon and will give you a bad reputation.
If you do farm, check to see if the player is active, farming inactive players is perfectly acceptable.

War
War, while stressful at times, is still incredibly fun.
There are no set rules, war can be between two alliances, or groups of alliances.
There are two main types of war.
There aren't any official terms for them so I will make them up.

Total War: War of passion, alliances use dirty tactics, spies, and lots of trash talk (most of which is not backed up).
There are usually altering motives for Total War than simple prestige getting.
Disrespect, oppression and unprovoked repeated attacks.

Understood War: War for Prestige, this is a simple competition for prestige.
There is usually an official declaration of war sent to alliance leaders before attacks start.
Options for surrender are given and rules of engagement can be set.
Alliances can still have respect for each other.

Battles
Don't necessarily have to be part of a war.
If your enemy is not commanding it is best to have your troops wait. Your ranged units will hopefully kill their whole army before they reach you.
If not send your calvary or infantry to keep them away from your catapults and archers.
If he is commanding there is no one way to fight, each opponent is different.

Experts
These are the moderators.
Certain players who Haypi staff gives the responsibility of making sure chat stays "PG"
They can mute players from chat  for several reasons, profanity is the most common.
Or it could be just talking about inappropriate, drug related or suggestive themes.
They are also supposed to help players by answering questions about the game.
A good expert is one that is fair and active.
As payment for their work they get 10 coins a day.
Anyone can be nominated expert but it hurts your chances if you have been muted or ask to be nominated.
So if you want to be expert the best way is to just be as active and helpful as possible, and hope someone notices.

Well that's all you really need to know about Haypi Kingdom.

Good Luck

Re: Haypi for Dummies (article entry)

A few corrections:

-Prestige can be gained from hunting too
-Fortune doesn't affect daily gift
-Easiest way to get coins (besides buying) is pvp
-There was nothing on enhance stones
-For oasis amount it's divide your level by 2 and round up
-For fort amount it's every major title upgrade (baron-1,viscount-2etc)
-So basically every new fort you get you can have a new branch, there's no difference between the 2
