Is he any good? aka is he worth saving boss essences for? Or should they be used for other stuff?

The truth is, if you are going to play this game for real (I mean for a long time), then you have to pick a legendary team to go after for a long term goal and slowly build on it (but need to get a all silver or gold epic team at same time for immediately use).

Gryphion maybe is not the best, but he is very decent.I picked him because he has good stats and most important, easier to get. Eventually, all good players will be using all gold epics. So to beat those, you need at least bronze or silver legendary monsters. To do that, you need to use those decent legendary monsters that are gettable and upgradable.

All decent legendary monsters are hard to get (you can drop all those fat dragon legendary monsters off your list. They are only average epic monsters faking legendary status). Boss essence turned out easier to get because of the world boss and boss raid event.

If you are in top tier group of floor 5 players, then you should at least be able to get 10 guardian chests every other day. With 10 chest, you usually get 5-20 boss essences. You also get 3 or more (depends if you have real pals) each day from boss raid. So with luck, you can get a Gryphion in about 2-4 months.

** If you are an average floor 5 player and can not constantly get guardian chests, you might want to consider using boss essence to get other stuff to help your epic team instead (like getting silver coins chest for upgrade epic use).

By the way, you probably don't need to ask Shadehawk that question. Just look at what he use in his signature, you know his answer.

Lol well I am still Floor 3, I just like to plan ahead, so I have LOOONNNNG way to go, but didn't want to waste them so I will start saving. That did confirm for me that I am not going to buy anymore eggs with coins for sure now, as popping a random guy will not be good as you need multiples as basic S grades just won't cut it. They need to be bronze/silver/gold.

HAHAHA, I had Gryph with Rain on the old HM. By far my favorite monster, sucks that he can't get Gold very easily.
