Greetings, I am WinTun from Server 10. Apologies for how inappropriately lengthy this entry looks; I just love writing. =)
What I love about the game
1) Amazing graphics and animations! They run very smoothly and cause almost no lag. Haypi Monsters has both good gameplay and animations.
2) The chat system! Different players get to exchange tips and strategies or simply socialize, a feature that is unfortunately not present in many great games. It's also nice to know that such an amazing game has the actually friendly and mature fan base that it deserves.
3) The breeding system! I found it very original and ingenious; a great implementation to improve the stats of your monsters.
4) The PVP Arena! Players get to pit their teams against others' and see if they truly are the master trainer that they think they are.
5) Manageable changes in difficulty! I absolutely love the fact that no matter how bumpy a start in the new Veteran or Expert Mode is, it doesn't take too long to adjust to it. The Haypi Monster Team doesn't purposely make the stages ridiculously difficult so as to get people to buy in-app purchases, thus making it more relaxing and enjoyable.
6) The very concept of synthesis is simply divine! It is the perfect implementation, getting people to persevere in that manner for their dream team. I believe that this is the feature which adds the splendor to Haypi Monsters.
7) An amazing production team! I am aware that the Haypi Monster Team isn't a part of the game, but I really appreciated the 'compensation' which the Haypi Monster Team arranged for the entire community. I also enjoyed all the competitions that have been organized for us, especially this one, in which we are potentially rewarded for providing feedback (aka the Haypi Monster Team values the players' feedback and are lending us a listening ear!) All these actions show that the Haypi Monster Team is truly sincere and is always striving to improve; it deserves more recognition for the hard work it puts in to please the fan base.
What I didn't enjoy + What I would love to see changed.
1) Re-spinning for a prize proves to be a waste of gold, as it is sometimes impossible to get what you want. In fact, the re-spin sometimes bluntly results in you getting the exact same prize as you received before you chose to re-spin. This is partly because of the fact that multiples of the more worthless prizes saturate the prize wheel. I feel that the prize wheel should have only one of each object, so that although the respin does not get you what you want, you are at least guaranteed a different prize. I also propose that an item which allows us to choose our prize be added to PVP/chests as a semi-rare drop to counter this problem, of which I'm certain many players face. Just like the ingenious EXP cards that were implemented, this item should not be available for purchase to ensure that there is still an element of luck required. Perhaps either that, or tweak the game such that the possibility of landing on a different prize is significantly higher. Please alter the prize wheel; I believe that this is the most problematic part of Haypi Monsters. You would re-spin only if you wanted a different prize, right?
2) A rune gem would result in your monster getting the same ability as before immediately after its usage. What's the point of that? A player would use a rune gem only if he wanted a different ability; the appalling rate at which the same ability appears is starting to get on my nerves. Could the Haypi Monster Team let us choose our desired ability for one or two runes of the next tier or three to five of the same gem instead of making us randomly spam gems? I would be more than willing to pay or stock up first and skip the process of having to use rune gems over and over again. I am currently find it rather irritating to have to use all of your rune gems, only to repeatedly get the same ability as before, or finding it impossible to get the ability you desire. Through the handy chat system implemented, it is very easy to conclude that other players are facing the same problem. The mystery talent feature added a lot more interesting ways to battle, but the process of getting your desired ability is just too tedious.
3) Why did the Haypi Monster Team change the advanced books into chests in Expert Mode? Now, it is even harder to get the book that you desire due to the additional element of luck added. Though I'm not a big fan of it, the randomization also sometimes gives you skills that rarely appeared in their books form in their past. Thus, though it can be annoying, it can also be a nice change. The main issue, though, is that they are extremely difficult to come by, thus attempts at Expert Modes are wasted. All that players usually end up with are the ever so abundant gold chests, the currently useless crystal gems, a potion that only the desperate would use in PVP, or a sum of silver. Even Veteran Mode awards better prizes. Perhaps the rate at which the advanced books/chests appear should be increased to ensure that players are decently rewarded from time to time. At the same time, the difficulty could be increased slightly, with more 'Epic Monsters' showing up instead. That sounds rather fair to me. =)
4) There are too many gold chests and absolutely no means of opening them. There is the occasional gold key that pops out from chests in maps, but other than that, you have to buy keys to open them. I understand that the Haypi Monster Team limited the number of free gold keys available probably because players would get too much loot. We wouldn't want that, would we? However, I believe that gold keys should be added to the prize wheel as a semi-rare prize in team or veteran/expert modes. This ensures that there is at least a decent chance and means of opening the chests. At the same time, the chances of gold chests appearing on the prize wheel should be lowered significantly. Once, I encountered a situation where five out of eight of the slots were occupied by gold chests. I have also lost count of how many gold chests I've had to sell. =P
That's really all that I didn't enjoy about the game; most of it is positive! I also have some ideas which haven't been implemented before, so it would really be appreciated if the Haypi Monster Team could consider them!
Ideas
1) Perhaps there should be an event called a 'Raid Boss'? It is a feature in which there is this extremely powerful monster which the entire server has to whittle down bit by bit. Whether if its of a specific type is, of course, up to the developers to decide. It would have over ten thousand health, and stats significantly higher than that of the great Phoenix itself. The 'Raid Boss' event would take place once every few months or so.
Each day of the event, every player has five chances to damage the 'Boss' as much as possible. At the end of the event, players are rewarded according to how much damage they managed to deal, with the top prize being 2 to 3 Advanced Book Chests or something decently rewarding. If the server fails to defeat the 'Boss', however, all the players would get is a sum of silver, or perhaps if you're feeling evil, nothing at all. The lucky individual who manages to get the killing blow on the 'Boss' should be awarded a Crystal Chest and a Crystal Key along with the prize he got for how much damage he dealt. Of course, the developers have the right to come up with their own version; I just have an idea which I want to express.
2) Perhaps each monster should have a signature move that it learns at level 45 or so? Due to the issue that it is only available late in the game and that many players train rather quickly, the player would be given the option to teach their monsters their signature moves upon reaching the required level. This ensures that he can teach the monster anything he pleases for the time being. This also makes sure that players who have already trained their monsters to higher levels get to choose if they want to teach them their signature moves, instead of robbing them of the chance just because they've already taught their monster something else. Signature moves are unique to the monster and would perhaps usually be 50-80 power offensive attacks with positive/negative side effects. They could also be supplementary skills specialized to cover the monster's weaknesses or improve its strengths.
For example, since I love Flight so much, I have thought of a possible signature move for it. It would be named 'Crush Claw', a 60 power (normal/physical type, of course) physical skill that lowers the target's defense before dealing damage, much like how 'Cunning' lowers the target's magic defense before dealing damage. Crush Claw would be unique to Flight, and due to how devastating it can be with Technician-II, it probably should be altered such that Technician does not boost Crush Claw's damage. The same would go for 'Cunning'. The idea of signature moves excites me, although I am unsure if its too much to ask for. At the same time, though, it would give the monsters a more unique trait instead of the same old Fire Blast, Poison Leaves and Water Bombs that saturate the game.
3) Just like there are daily tasks, there should be daily events. Daily events are usually rather challenging, but without restrictions. Players can only attempt it once per day and failure to complete it means that their attempt has been used up. Quitting the stage would also count as a failure. Players are guaranteed a specific prize upon completion, a prize that would be feature at the starting screen of each stage. Prizes would usually come in the form of specific advanced skills books or a catalyst. Perhaps more challenging events would award you with gold or a specific level one, grade E epic monster of whose gender you can choose. If 'Daily Events' sounds or turns out to be too rewarding, perhaps it should only be available once a week instead. Thus, they would be called 'Weekly Events'. =)
4) Is it possible to combine several servers together? If so, please do. I find that each time I log in, I only ever see the same players occupying the chat. Perhaps if several servers were to be merged together, there would be many more opportunities and socialization. Plus, we get to see who really is the best of the best. =)
5) An auction house would be cool to have. The player can place any item up for sale at a chosen price; anyone can buy them off him. Perhaps each player would be limited to one auction slot, with VIPs having more. I thought that this would be a pretty neat and practical implementation that would let players progress more quickly if they ever got lucky enough to get what they wanted. It isn't a cheapskate way to progress, either, unless you were to persuade someone to sell something you need for an extremely low price =D. That would be one downfall of this feature, of course.
6) A simple but practical feature that I think would be a nice touch. Chat with your team mate should be enabled during 2 vs 2 PVP battles so that players may strategize.
7) I believe that we should be able to get our monsters to forget their skills and get back the skill books which you used on them. This would only work on skills which were taught to the monsters via skill books, and not on skills that the monsters learn by default. It would be nice to be able to just do that instead of having to farm for that particular skill over again. Of course, it would come at a price; perhaps ten thousand silver or a number of the currently useless crystal gems/blocks/fragments.
And... That's all from me! I really do appreciate the time you spent reading this, and hope that you would consider some of my suggestions. Thank you!
