How veteran works

I've been exploring Jungle Veteran and made some observations. They might be obvious to you players who play veteran mode all the time. Hope it is some help to newer players, though. Anyone with more experience want to confirm that I'm on the right track?

* The purple pedestals that look like a snake or dragon (are they called nests, or is that something different?) are always at the same spot on the dice board and are spaced evenly apart. I'll just call them "vet" squares for now.

* Battles on normal squares (white pedestal with crossed swords) encounter random monsters within a small range of levels.

* For battles on vet squares, the first monster is one of the normal randoms, the second monster seems to be the same (type and level) every time. This nest monster is higher level than the normals, but lower level than the "boss" at the end.

* Boss monsters are the same type and level every time for the same zone, just like in Normal mode.

* Monster Exp for the boss battle is 5x the normal yield.

Some specific info for Jungle Veteran:

Exp yields for Nature types:
  Code:
lvl  exp
18  101
19  104
20  107
21  110
22  112
23  115
24  118

Exp yield for 22 Funkis is 144 (not 112) because he is Normal type not Nature.

1-1 Veteran
----
Vet squares: 3, 6
Normal monsters: Blossom, Leetle, Twiggy
Level range: 18-19
Vet monsters: 20 Octobud, 20 Bloom
Boss monster: 21 Swiper

1-2 Vet
----

Normal monsters: Blossom, Twiggy, Kernel
Level range: 19-20
Vet monsters: 21 Octobud, 21 Lambush, 21 Bloom
Boss monster: 22 Branchy

1-3 Veteran
----
Vet squares: 4, 8, 12
Normal monsters: Twiggy, Kernel, Octobud
Normal level range: 20-21
Vet monsters: 22 Bloom, 22 Funkis, 22 Swiper
Boss monster: 23 Octomom

1-4 Veteran
----
Vet squares: 4, 8, 12
Normal monsters: Twiggy, Octobud
Normal level range: 22-23
Vet monsters: 24 Bloom, 24 Lambush, 24 Branchy
Boss monster: 25 Swiper

1-5 I haven't documented yet.

Re: How veteran works

Good work undove! It seems about right, I havent double checked yet but if its off it isnt by much. Good to see how xp is gained on each level. I was wondering that for a long time, just havent had the motivation to document it.

Thanks

veteran square = mini-boss

I found somewhere in the online help that Haypi uses the term "mini-boss" for the squares that you can't jump over.

Veteran Miracle Sea summary 2-1 to 2-7

The mini-boss squares in Miracle Sea aren't as evenly spaced as they are in Jungle. They are generally 3-6 squares apart, often 4. Some of the variation seems to be to allow for branching paths. I might have missed a mini-boss on a side path for one of the scenes, but usually the mini-boss squares are on the main path.

I've been noticing that, if the normal wild monsters are in the level range a to b, then the mini-bosses will be level b+1 and the boss will be b+2.

Bubbles will use Rain Prayer, so if you bring an electric type it will have an advantage. A ghost type is useful for those scenes with a lot of Gogo or Funkis (also good for taking down Champ).

Glider is a pain because he uses Poison Paw and has a fair amount of HP (use Ghost against him?). For Vertebrex, I don't have any specific tips.

Scene 2-1

Wild monsters, levels 25-27: Crabby, Bluegway, Gogo
Mini-boss squares: 4, 8, 12, 16
Mini-boss monsters, level 28 (in order): Bubbles, Shelly, Gnasher, Gnasher
Boss, level 29: Shelly

Scene 2-2

Wild monsters, levels 26-27: Oogway, Ripper, Crabby
Mini-boss squares: 3, 8, 12, 16
Mini-boss monsters, level 28 (in order): Shelly, Gnasher, Bubbles, Crusty
Boss, level 29: Gnasher

Scene 2-3

Wild monsters, levels 26-28: Ripper, Crabby, Oogway
Mini-boss squares: 3, 6, 13, 16
Mini-boss monsters, level 29 (in order): Shelly, Gnasher, Crusty, Crusty
Boss, level 30: Crusty

Scene 2-4

Wild monsters, levels 27-28: Bluegway, Crabby, Funkis
Mini-boss squares: 3, 8, 14, 16
Mini-boss monsters, level 29 (in order): Shelly, Gnasher, Thor, Crusty
Boss, level 30: Crusty

Scene 2-5

Wild monsters, levels 27-29: Ripper, Oogway, Crabby
Mini-boss squares: 4, 8, 11, 16
Mini-boss monsters, level 30 (in order): Gnasher, Bubbles, Champ, Crusty
Boss, level 31: Crusty

Scene 2-6

Wild monsters, levels 28-29: Ripper, Crabby, Oogway
Mini-boss squares: 3, 7, 11, 15
Mini-boss monsters, level 30 (in order): Gnasher, Bubbles, Shelly, Glider
Boss, level 31: Gnasher

Scene 2-7

Wild monsters, levels 28-30: Gogo, Ripper, Crabby
Mini-boss squares: 3, 8, 11, 14
Mini-boss monsters, level 31 (in order): Gnasher, Bubbles, Vertebrex, Gnasher
Boss, level 32: Shelly

It's interesting that some scene levels have Oogway and others have Bluegway.

Exp yield

Here's how much exp you can expect to get from each monster you defeat:

  Code:

          monster type
monstr   ---------------
level    water  physical
-----    -----  --------

25       135     157
26       139     161
27       142     165
28       146     170
29       149     174
30       152     178
31       156
32       159

29 Thor = 199 exp
31 Vertebrex = 227 exp

I've seen Haypi use the term "physical" type, so that's what I put in the table above. Most players say "normal" or "neutral" type.

The only anomalous exp I found was level 30 Glider. I calculated that I got 135 exp from defeating him, wheras 30 Champ gave me 178 exp.

Hope that helps,
