About originality some people fuss so much about~

Pokemon was based off insect fighting. Anyways the idea wasn't really original, I believe the creator got inspiration from an anime with aspects similar to Pokemon.

Insect fighting doesn't count, it's a natural occurrence but yes I guess Pokemon did copy but it was the original mainstream game that has branched off so well.

I wouldn't say it's was the original mainstream at all. More like the one that just got lucky with it's attention and fanbase.

And supposedly there's no copyright laws in china (I heard this from a Chinese player, not my own info) so it doesn't really matter what haypi copies off of. As for players copying things for the contest, that is illegal. They can be similar of course but straight up copied designs/pictures is plagiarism considering that entering the contest implies that it's your own work.
