Keeping items in your mailbag is a risk, you are 'gaming the system' and taking advantage of a feature they implemented to prevent you from completely losing an item you got during a level if your bag was full.

I wouldn't recommend you keep winnings there and if they disappear (or expire?) I highly doubt they will do anything to recover them for you.

They won't expire because I have had some stuff for over two months in my mailbox but they will disappear if you go over 50 space threshold. So what I do is delete all the Add Friends messages and PMs and keep a tight reign on my in game attachments when my bag is full.

That's not entirely true. I had books from months in the mail, and one day they just vanish in thin air. I didn't reach the cap of 50 mails. And support did nothing, and say they couldn't check.

I disagree with the cheating part. If the mail isn't supposed to help. Then put a temporal cap that it would be deleted next day or so. If they don't say this is because it is supposed to be used as extra space. However, they should clearly state when the mail is getting deleted, or fix and emend issues when the mail gets deleted when is not supposed to.

This happened to me twice, I thought I lost two books,

Im storing my 4th stack of Beginner Book Chests in my mail, but if I lose them Im ok with it.

Sadly I'm at 9 Water ABCs so I am kinda discouraged from doing my daily veteran/expert attempts since I dont have the room in my bags for more ABC stacks without deleting something.

The support staff has said that there is no expiration date for mails. It's best to send them an e-mail of inquiry to see if you can get these items back. They might be able to find a record of some sort.
Just ensure that you only store the most important items in your inventory.
I try to only have less than 20 mail at any one time. I usually hover around the 10 items mark so I can always keep track.

Also, just to point out that you should be deleting the notices, such as 'XXX has added you as a friend' and the read and unimportant private messages.

They will be increasing our slots in the next version so we might get more of a leeway. Also, because of disenchantment, I doubt we'll need all these slots that often.
