Leviathan Build question

I've already checked out every single post on leviathan.

I just couldn't find my answer to this question.

Water bomb or water torrent?

I am running double water torrent with rain and POD on my rain-matk leviathan.

I'd love to get Fort-II but it'll be at least 2 months until I can afford the money to start focusing on the talents.

Meanwhile, I'm working on beating expert modes. I'm at swamp right now only because I've used all of my expert modes on sealed space farming for POD.

I was wondering what you guys would suggest for leviathan build that's versatile.

My long term goal is to build a line that will never be challenged in ladder. I'm currently holding my spot on the 1st, but I know it'll be a matter of time before people with multiple OELs try to dethrone me. At the same time, I don't want to build a levi that won' work at all in barren expert.

Any suggestion? Double water torrent seems to be working for now (levi is at level 50 with ATK/MATK focus stat bet. I followed koenaj's advice and decided to build it as a cannon instead of meat shield).

So my question is ultimately the following

Soak + Water Bomb vs Water Torrent + Water Torrent?

I'll have to start upgrading the skills. I don't have a soak yet, but I do have curse available. Is curse necessary for barren exp? People say levi is very useful for barren, but what kind of levi build would be useful?

Is it impossible to build a levi that would work for both ladder and expert maps?

Re: Leviathan Build question

Hi dooboosoda,

If you're going to aim for Fortitude-II, I'd get Rain Prayer, Water Bombs, Water Torrent and either Soak or Power of Darkness, we'll get to that later.

While you're stuck with Rain Power-MATK, double Water Torrent is definitely the best choice, no arguing in that.
However, it seems like you're trying to balance your Leviathan out too much; the line between a strong Expert map monster and a strong Ladder monster is pretty big, sadly :?.

For Expert Maps, I'd suggest this build :
Talent : Water Therapy-II
Skills : Power of Darkness, Rain Prayer, Water Bombs and Water Torrent

For Ladder, I'd suggest this :
Talent : Fortitude-II
Skills : Power of Darkness, Rain Prayer, Water Bombs 2x

For PvP, I'd suggest either one of these this builds :
Talent : Fortitude-II
Skills : Power of Darkness, Rain Prayer, Cunning/Mind-Bending (Depending if your Server has more Pegasus' or Bahamuts) and Water Bombs

Talent : Fortitude-II
Skills : Power of Darkness, Rain Prayer, Soak and Curse

Note : This build works best in 2v2 with a Lightnight monster. Set up Rain, then use either PoD if needed or start Curse + Soaking.
Note 2 :This isn't a popular build, some people might detest it, but it does the job most of the time.

As you can see, no build is the same, altough they may have 3 Skills identical, that one other skill can be the building block for Leviathan.
If you'd really want a versatile build, I'd go with this, as it's kinda the safe build for any monster:

Talent : Fortitude-II
Skills : Power of Darkness, Rain Prayer, Water Bombs, Water torrent

This'll make you a real strong opponent, but nothing in this build jumps out and makes your opponents stop challenging you.

Also, Curse is a nice tool, but it's definitely not required in order to beat Expert Maps. I have to admit that I passed both Barren Land and Ocean Abyss using Curse, but it's quite the sacrifice, especially on a Leviathan, one of your main monsters. Using Curse in Expert Maps usually results in your monster dying in less than 5 turns, regardless of Talent.

I hope this has answered all your questions. If you have any other questions or any additional ones, please ask away!

Best of luck,

Koen

Re: Leviathan Build question

Thanks Koenaj.

I'm glad I don't have to teach Leviathan soak.

I just used soak on my pegasus and it is the best decision I've ever made.

I still have 1 question, however.

Why water bomb?

Is that because of PP or because you can use it regardless of the weather?

My levi always procs rain and pod before it does anything else, so I was wondering why water bomb would be more preferable to water torrent especially in ladder.

Thanks for your replies!

Re: Leviathan Build question

You answered your own question ;). Water Bombs has more PP as well as not relying on weather.
The fact that you have to cast both Rain and PoD makes you lost two turns, this might pay off in the long run, but you'll miss out on damage early on, that's why I usually decide to cast only one if it won't put me in any danger. If I absolutely have to, I'll obviously cast both PoD and Rain, but the fact that you lose two turns solely setting up can be a huge loss.
And for Ladder, it's just a matter of preferences, I like not having to rely on the AI's skill to cast weather all the time :?.

Re: Leviathan Build question

My suggestion is build it how you play. Personally I would have PoD, rain, bombs and torrent. the bombs gives you more pp, and in BL expert you will need it. as far as soak, It would be nice but you lose rain and your talent. If you got fort, then soak kinda becomes unnecessary in a way. I think thorn2 is a good talent for levi, especially against those pesky Mino in bl expert.
