Breed LEGENDARIES... hahah
I beat a Levi with fortitude, hydra with water barrier, scythe with armor 2/pod and a brawny with armor 3 with 2 flights, a champ and a branchy. One flight killed the Levi, the branchy killed either the brawny or scythe and the hydra, and the champ and other flight killed whatever monster the branchy didn't (the scythe or brawny). The right monsters with the right skills and the right player can be good no matter what rarity it is. I'm not saying all rares can beat all epics (nor would I want them to) but with a little luck it is possible. That's also the reason I think anyone who actually believes you need advanced moves to make them relevant are idiotic noobs.
If you want to use lupa go for it. It's not the best monster ever but a S lupa can be a threat against certain monsters (for example, he's a fast psychic type which means he can learn debuff moves of all types and therefore is effective towards rock types especially.
-Spirit channel (solid psychic damage, a must have for lupa),
-poison powder OR poison petals (I'd suggest powder since it'll always poison as long as it hits),
-seduction/electric net/a move that causes confusion or sleep (this is really personal preference. The point of these moves is to make the battle draw on, thereby increasing the poison damage as well as increase the damage you can inflict because lupa has low defense like all psychic types),
-finally either that fire move that gives the burn debuff whose name I can't remember, a move that increase your stats like meditation and charge, or sewage for use against not only rock types but also fire type (I'd suggest the burn cause it'll lower the enemy attack power by a large amount, though sewage is useful cause it increase dodge)
I have a set up with this basic premise on my A+ psychoe and I can do serious damage with it in pvp, especially dual duel. Although I'd rather have a psychoe than lupa both are good at really annoying the enemy with hit and run like tactics. As for the difference in stats, each stat upgrade (a- to A for example) is an increase of 1 per stat, however some monster can vary and actually have an increase of 2 when compared to other monsters of the same species.
