Mirror Shield, Magic Mirror, Water Sprout

Has anyone used any of these skills?

From what I can tell by descriptions:

Watersprout: Must be cast same turn but after being attacked
Magic Mirror Shield: Must be cast before. Might be a buff that lasts until monster gets attacked by the correct move type?

Do these moves use the attacker's stats/buffs? Or are they based on actual damage done? Or maybe the reciprocated move is done as if *you* used their move so it uses all of your stats/buffs at x2 damage for the Shields?

Will the element be the original attack's element or be changed to Water/Psychic? Will it possibly be 'neutral' like Poison or Fire debuff's damage?

Does Magic Mirror Shield protect from the attack? Or do you have to take the damage then do your damage afterwards? If the original damage actually occurs, will the Magic Mirror Shield damage still occur if the attack killed your monster?

Re: Mirror Shield, Magic Mirror, Water Sprout

I think these 2 skills works exactly the same as counter and mirror coat in pokemon, the user first receive dmg, then does double dmg back, not affected by elemental types.

If the attacker uses phsysical att, and you uses the phsysical counter, the attacker deals x amount of dmg, the defender first receive x dmg and then deals 2 x dmg back to the attacker. If the attacker uses a magical attack and the defender uses pshysical counter, then only the defender receives dmg. The same goes for the amgical attacks and counters.

If the defender would die by an attack, the attacker wont receive any dmg at al.

I.e.

Smiter vs purfection

Smiter uses poison petal and deal 50 dmg to purr, purr receives 50 dmg and deals back 100 dmg if he uses magic mirror. If pur has casted mirror shield, then only pur receives 50 and deals nothing back for making the wrong choice of counter.

In order to use these 2 attack effectively, u need a monster with high hp and low def and mdef

I dont rlly know how watersprout works, i guess it deals the same amount of dmg as the attacker, regardless of pshysical/magical

Hope this clears a bit?

I'd prefer input from anyone who actually has the skill and can test it if possible. But I suspect you are right, but things have a habit of not being as logical as they could in HM.

The big ones that makes a huge difference is how long the Shields persist? Do they last two a new turn etc and do they have to be cast prior to being hit whereas Watersprout sounds like it has to be hit prior to casting.

I don't know how dense you can be. Really, they did an excellent job with these descriptions. These moves are best placed on monsters that: are slow, have very high hp, meager defences and a recovery move. What these moves do; the damage most recently taken by your monster is reciprocated - turned around and sent back to sender, for lack of a better description - and doubly upon delivery. Layman's terms'? The last time you got hit by a move, the enemy gets dealed double the damage you received.

HOWEVER, it only works against the oreintation of the attack. Mirror Shield will only reciprocate physical moves (such as Laijutsu) and Magic Mirror will only recriprocate magical moves (such as Mind Bending). Furthermore, the move waterspout will reciprocate both physical and magical moves, but will not double the damage sent.

I never asked what type of attacks they work on, I am concerned about the nuances and practicality of using the skills. Ill assume calling me dense is related to your misplaced anger at your poor reading comprehension.

The reason I called you dense is because you wouldn't trust a basic description and then ask someone to buy the skill, test it out just for you and report back to you with answers. If you're so curious about it, then go and explore it on your own.

With the compensation Essence of Wisdom I bought Mirror Shield, it can only be used by Psychic monsters.

Does it cast it in ladder?

I have no decent psychic monsters and don't want to waste it on a D Rank to test with. I might actually sell it back to the shop :(

Don't! You might find Angelos to breed and might make good use of that.

@superfly:
I am almost certain that it won't be used in ladder. I am sure that the AI is not smart enough to know when to use this. Even if it constantly uses this from the first turn the monster uses a skill, it will be easily countered by just using a monster who uses a magical/physical move, whichever mirror skill is being used.

It can be excellent in PvP but I just don't find it very useful in ladder, unless the AI is significantly improved.
Quitted!
