Will learning spirit channel mess up my turtle ?

I want to teach my turtle spirit channel, but Will this mess him up in tournament?
( I'm asking, because I was fighting a turtle,he keeps using a ghost skill, not water skills. I'm worried, if I teach him spirit channel, next time he's facing a fire or rock type, he wouldn't use water skills, which results more damage.

Please offer me some advice. Any comment is appreciated.

Maybe when you were facing the turtle your monster wasn't weak to water and had a low mdef, hence why it would use ghost attacks. Plus, I think the game is smart enough to use water on fire/rock types.

Yea there's a couple people on s1 who have spirit channel on all their monsters, whenever I face them in ladder they usually only use spirit channel against types they're weak against. I would recommend it.
