How to control the server without using a lot of coins

It is definitely possible to be on top without coins. I was ranked 2nd for a while and I didn't coin. Add in the fact that it was my first server and that should tell you it is definitely possible to be on top without coins. Just takes a bit of altered technique and dedication is all.
