PvP - Unbalanced as hell

I started playing Haypi Dragon about 1+ weeks ago, and though I quite enjoy the game I have some serious issues with the PvP system. I find it completely ridiculous actually.

  • Opponent pairing seems to be completely random. You can get a 35+ level opponent just as easily you can get paired against a newbie. What is the interest I ask, of a newbie to play his first PvP game against an expert and get creamed in a single shot? I'm pretty sure it isn't very interesting for the expert either.
  • The game rewards players even for losing battles (seemingly to offset the PvP pairing imbalance). I can't count how many times my dragon has gotten the 1500+ XP "Combat a Foe" award, despite losing. What I've come to realize is that I can level up my dragon a lot quicker by playing a bunch of useless, completely unentertaining PvP matches than I would using the Dragon Eyrie or farming through levels.
What is the point of this I ask? I would far more enjoy the game if:

  • Dragons of similar levels were paired against each other.
  • The system rewarded players for WINNING battles rather than merely participating, or if at least the participating rewards weren't so big.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels about this. And it's especially annoying in multi-player 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4 battles. I've completely given up creating any of those rooms, as PvP seems to be over-populated with 40+ dragons that quit the room unless they're paired with a partner of equal or stronger level.

How about making PvP enjoyable even for the newbies? I feel like I'm just gonna live in frustration till my dragon gets at least to level 35.

Re: PvP - Unbalanced as hell

Congrats on your first post.!
This post should be moved to the Suggestions page.

I agree with your first point but the second not so much.
I love the rewards in PvP and receiving rewards and love the fact that you receive more rewards if you win and a minimum if you lose.

This is a good system because when a new player joins a server that has been around for a while, he or she may not be disappointed by the lose in pvp because he or she was still rewarded some what.

Re: PvP - Unbalanced as hell

Hi RO-5ELiTE, and thanks! :)

I'm not suggesting rewards for participating in PvP should be removed completely. I'm simply saying they're completely disproportionate to what you get in PvE.

1 hour training in Dragon Eyrie = 840 XP
5 minutes of PvE level farming (old levels) = between 200 and 800 XP depending on levels
30 seconds of a PvP lost match = 1300+ XP

It's a bit ridiculous...

And at any rate, if newbies were paired against dragons of their own levels, rewards for participation wouldn't need to be so big. In an EVENLY BALANCED match, you should get rewards only if you actually deserve them i.e. beating your opponent because of your player skills, rather than having a 40-Level dragon that can kill noobs in a single shot.

(but yes, if the PvP pairing system isn't fixed, maintaining these huge rewards for participating seems to be the only way to discourage players from quitting any time the game puts them up against a Devil dragon)

Re: PvP - Unbalanced as hell

I believe Haypi wants people to play more PvP than grind, you have to admit it is much more pleasing to play PvP with your buds than grind.

Re: PvP - Unbalanced as hell

I thought of that. There should be two options:
  • PvP - Balanced Match (game only pairs you up with an opponent that is at most +/- 2 levels above or below you.
  • PvP - Free Match (game pairs you up with anyone, regardless of dragon level)

The latter option would allow you to play with anyone, including your buddies.

P.S. why would your buddies want to play against you if your dragon is 20+ levels better than them, is beyond me...

Re: PvP - Unbalanced as hell

The matching system in pvp has always been an issue. But at least not the lower levels can use that experience to level their dragon as they pick up on the basics. When I was a noob you didn't wanna bother with pvp until at least level35.
