First of all, ask her friends if she has any possible interest in you (in that way) at all. If not, walk off, discouraged but saved of a lot of trouble. If they say yes, you may have a chance.

But...take this from personal experience, if you really like her and care about her, don't ask her. If she says no, it might be weird for a week or two but it will go back to normal. But if she says yes...that's bad. You may be happy for a few weeks, a month, maybe even a year, but eventually, IT WILL END. Breakups are NEVER mutual, somebody will get hurt. You may never be friends again, and you may possibly be enemies. You might patch up a long time later, but it will never be the same.

Just make sure you don't end up the re-bound guy. Those relationships never work out.

I know it's not what you want to hear but if it's meant to be, it will happen in due course. Take solace in the fact that you have a great friend and that you can be there for here if she needs you.
