Click to download any free app while not logged in to iTunes, say "Create a New Account," and it will then give you the option to not put in a credit card.

Probably because when they set the price globally they also changed the Canadian price. It seems like it was only meant to be free for S1, and perhaps in the future.

You could be like I am so often, and download the app at full price then of course within a week it becomes free. :P (I once bought an app for $7, which 1 day later decreased permanently to $5, and within a week was on sale for $1 >.P )
