Archers

Should archers have more range that catapults?

It will bring archers a proper role on the battlefield.

Re: Archers

Good solution to this would make cats do half damage to cavs since they should be avoiding catapult attacks regardsless, but maintain same damage to regular troops. Now if someone comes at you with a cav/inf army archers should be doing double the damage to both inf and cav while their attack is halved if they attack catapults. Realistic and fair

Re: Archers

i find that the damage should improve for archer at mid rnge. since we have cats being so powerful, why not increase the power of archers? so in a sense ppl will want to build archers as well. cats maybe should decrease damage by half when in mid range. this will make it more balance

Re: Archers

While I do like this idea, I think that the original suggestion may have been a little overboard. I'm not sure what kind of improvement there should be whether it be range or damage, but there should definitely be some sort of improvement. Why train a unit that in the end, is about as much help as if you tried running the infantry over with catapults. People view them as useless and are constantly advised against training them. I have seen people purposely sacrifice archers to forts or to an oasis simply so they can train about 1/5 of the number but in catapults. They really don't have enough of a role to be worth training, the Calvary, good scouts for defenses and occasionally some extra resources for farming, infantry are definitely cost effective for carrying resources and eliminating traps, catapults are the ultimate range attack and are useful for destroying turrets... What fo the archers do?

Archers... Suck.

Range isn't something they need a boost in, though.

Re: Archers

Make it similar to the archers and catapults in Lords of the Rings :)

That's as realistic as it gets ;)

Re: Archers

Actually, in medieval times, archers were NOT sharpshooters. Archers (as was mentioned in another thread) shot a barrage of arrows into the sky, and some arrows would hit, the rest would not. Archers did not "im for specific people. They aimed for a group. However, even doing this, they were much more successful than the archers in Haypi are..

So I would say archers should be able to eliminate more infantry that they currently can, however, they should not have increased range. A bow only has so much power, and the power of a bow is nothing to that of a catapult. That is the point of mechanical advantage.

Re: Archers

maybe a multiplier when they fight in large groups? like 5% extra damage every 1,000 archers? that way swarms work well..
