Idea for a Competition
I'm on S2 and although I'm a relatively new player, this is an older server and many of the players on it are growing tired of the same old routine of hunting, scouting, attacking, etc. In hopes of reviving the interest of older players and also to get new players more active, I've put together an idea for a server-wide team competition. I'd like to post my idea below for feedback from more experience players.
Structure
- Each alliance submits 5 team members, one from each title class (Baron, Viscount, Earl, Marquis, and Duke). No peasants and royalty allowed, LOL. If an alliance doesn't have a team member from a particular class, then that alliance will be short a member and will forfeit all battles that would otherwise be played by that member. [Alternatively, we could allow a member of lower title class to act as a substitute.]
- Each team will battle every other team once. Points will be earned based on the results of each battle.
- After all matches are completed, the team with the most total points throughout the tournament wins. In the event of a tie, there will be a tie breaker between the tied teams. [I haven't decided on whether the tie breaker should be more matches, or if it would make sense to use points earned by individuals. For example, the team whose Baron earned the most points throughout the tournament wins. If it's still a tie, then move up to Viscount and so on.]
Matches
- All battles will take place in an oasis specified by the tournament director(s).
- In a match between Team A and Team B, each member will fight 3 battles against the corresponding member of the other team (e.g., Baron A vs Baron B, Viscount A vs Viscount B, etc.).
- In the first battle, Team A will defend. In the second battle, Team B will defend. If a team member wins both of these battles, then they earn a point for their team and they are done for this match-up. If it is a split after the first two battles, then a third battle will take place and a coin flip will determine who will defend.
- The winner of a battle is determined simply by whoever owns the oasis after the battle has completed. It is the attacker's responsibility to make sure that they have an open slot to actually take the oasis.
Troop Restrictions
One of the goals of this competition is to give everyone a chance to battle others on a level playing field. Although a completely level playing field is impossible, we can come close by restricting the amount of troops you may use. The restriction will be measured by crop consumption rather than setting an exact limit on how many troops of each type you can use. This allows for more strategy to be used since you can still determine the composition of your army. The crop limits will be set based on your title:
- Baron: 2,500 crops
- Viscount: 5,000 crops
- Earl: 10,000 crops
- Marquis: 15,000 crops
- Duke: 20,000 crops
I've tried to keep the description above minimal just to get the main idea across with some details provided only to give a better sense of what I have in mind. I have given some thought regarding the logistics of running such a competition (and I'm a bit scared to be honest). Here are some of the things I've been considering:
- A tournament director would have to be available to monitor each battle (or at least check immediately after the battle has concluded). This means that scheduling will be a challenge to get three people on at the same time.
- This competition could go on for quite a while depending on how many participants there are. Theoretically, there is no limit to the number of participating teams. Even if a particular alliance has more members that wish to participate, they can temporarily disband and form a new alliance for the purposes of this competition. Realistically, however, a limit should be set so that the competition ends within a reasonable amount of time. Especially for a first run.
- Before each battle, I thought about asking that each player submit to the tournament director the exact composition of the army they are going to use so that scouting the oasis doesn't become an advantage for the attacker.
Please comment and offer your suggestions. Also, if you are on S2 and think you would be interested in participating in a competition like this, please let me know. I think this could be a really fun experience.
Oh, and if the developers want to incorporate something like this into a new PvP-like competition, that would be awesome.
Thanks!
