Server 74's Story

Those of you who have followed from the beginning know that this is not where the story begins. When I have time, I will add to the beginning so that you guys know what happened. If you already know and want to fill others in, feel free.

Once Midas had given his looming promise to Nut and Star, he turned swiftly on the ball of his foot and wasted no time shuffling out of the door. The room fell quiet, as no one knew what to expect. The air was still charged and thick with the accusations and assumptions that Nut had used some dark, magical power to turn the once comely Midas into this horrid creature.
"Would Zippo, who so valiantly defended King Midas's cause, continue on with this impromptu trial of the two Haypians who were so praised only days before?" Before anyone had much time to wonder, or wait for further action from Zippo, a figure swept into the building.
Before any more thought could be given to the subject, a small cloaked figure swept into the room. It's cloak was long, and velvet black, dark as a starless night. The only thing that stood out on the cloak was a triangle that started at the neck of the cloak, and reached down to a point in the middle of the figure's back. The small, quick figure snatched the umbrella, and darted out of the door.
Zippo, quite befuddled with the sudden change of events, and not knowing what further action to take dismissed the congregation with a wave of his arm, more a gesture of frustration than resignation. Although he had to abandon his cause today, he would get to the bottom of this mysterious umbrella, and the cloaked stranger.
Meanwhile, as the main building slowly emptied, past the brush, and into the forest, the stranger pulled back her hood to reveal the face of a young girl, no more than 15 years of age.
Now that she was out of sight from the townspeople, she stopped to inspect the umbrella. At first glance, it would appear to be much like any other umbrella that one might see today, but in ancient times such as the in days of Haypi, the umbrella was a rather sophisticated piece of equipment.
Unlike what you would see today, the ribs of the umbrella were made from thin, pale pieces of birch wood. The rod of the umbrella was carved with intricate details, each one seeming to be a vital piece to the one next to it as they wove a story through the wood. In the ivory handle was carved the face of a man with strong, yet gentle features. His eyes were a pair of sparkling blue zircon.
Immediately she knew where she must go. She trekked through the forest, careful to avoid making too much noise. After walking for quite some time, she approached a hut made of bamboo and covered with a thatched roof.
Before she could knock, the door opened in expectation. Before her stood a tall man, wisdom was worn on his face as naturally as an eagle wears its feathers.
He stepped aside, ushering her into his simple, but sufficient home. She eased out of the cloak and hung it on a hook which was protruding from the wall. "What shall we do about this uproar?" he asked, his voice calm and fatherly.
"I say we cast a spell on all of them! Let's mute their voices!" she excitedly ranted.
"Sting, my dear little protégé, this is not one of your stories...we must handle this matter seriously."
"But, what about the time when I slew a dragon? I didn't even use a sword! I used my bare hands, and he was dead within minutes!"
"Stinger, that was training and the dragon was not dead. We cannot mute the townspeople, or kill them for that matter. However, we must restore Midas to his former body, and settle this matter between Nut, star and the townspeople."

Re: Server 74's Story

As the fatherly man continued to talk his young protégé about how to settle the uproar, back in town, Midas was in his house, standing before his looking glass, observing his new, rather alarming physique. Gone were his broad shoulders and strapping arms, his face was no longer chiseled and strong. He could not bear the thought of leading his armies with such haggard looks. Who would respect him now? How had his life turned so bitterly wrong in just a matter of moments?
In their home, Nut and Star lamented over how quickly the town had turned against them. The wise, but recluse man known by some around town as the "rain maker" had given them the umbrella with instructions to use it in order to see the good in others, so that they could know the intentions of strangers which they might meet on the roads in their travels from city to city. Never in their wildest dreams had they imagined that it would cause such an uproar.
Zippo, rather exhausted from the days affairs settled into his chair at the head of his family's table. His wife, Skitz passed by him on her way to the kitchen. Noticing the tension on his face she stopped by and gave his shoulders a squeeze, and placed a kiss on his brow which was furrowed with worry. She knew that her husband often caused great stress on himself by trying to defend causes that he thought was right. In this case, he was supporting and defending his long time friend, Midas. Whom, (from what she had heard), had been dealt an awful blow.

Re: Server 74's Story

After the Rain Maker's sobering admonishment Stinger made her way back home. She began to realize how serious the Rain Maker was taking these events. As night began to fall in Haypi Kingdom a feeling of unease began to settle in. It had been many years since anyone had used magic greater than enhancement stones from time to time. Although sometimes useful, enhancement stones did nothing more than increase effectiveness of the tools and the talents of the Haypi citizens. Even then, they did not always work. The power of the umbrella was something that the Haypians had not seen in their lifetime.

The Rain Maker, knowing that the situation could get out of hand, pored over a thick book which was nestled in his lap. The pages were stained and worn by time. The book, which had not been opened in many years was penned in a language which was unintelligible to anyone without the benefit of magic. His white hair glistened and fell over his shoulders as he leaned forward, sliding an amulet over the words. As the amulet touched the page, the letters shimmered and rearranged themselves into Haypiish, the native language of the land. The Rain Maker carefully reviewed page after page, absorbing the wisdom of the ancients. He knew what his next move must be.

Re: Server 74's Story

Before the wise Rain Maker had any time to further consider his plan to restore balance to Haypi Kingdom, there was a loud, urgent knock at the door. He closed the book, set it high on his book shelf, and with a wave of his hand, the book disappeared. He hastily made his way to the door, and opened it to discover Zippo standing outside. He stepped to the side, to allow Zippo to enter. As Zippo passed through the doorway, the Rain Maker saw that Midas was following closely behind.
Unbeknownst to many of the Haypians, this was not the first time that Midas and Zippo had seen life altering acts of magic. Many years ago, when Midas and Zippo were still only noobs themselves, they encountered a beautiful enchantress on the outskirts of the kingdom, near the river's banks. Being young and spirited, the lads headed towards her, calling out to her suggestively. As they got closer, they could see that the young woman seemed to be in despair. When they reached her, they asked if they could somehow help her. She turned to them, and with pleading eyes asked if one of them would consider giving her a child. She said that she had lost her husband, and would never love another, but she so desperately wanted a child of her own. She told them that if they would agree to father her child, she would give them both successful kingdoms, riches and beauty that was incomparable to any other they had ever known. In order to ensure that their bond was sealed, neither man would know who the father of the child was.
Being young, foolish and overcome with greed, Zippo and Midas agreed. As promised, the young woman spoke an incantation. Zippo and Midas began to notice subtle changes. Midas's shoulders were more squared, and he stood a bit taller. His face radiated beauty that Eros himself would have been jealous of. Zippo, already being tall, filled out. His chest broadened, and his eyes glistened. His smile defined symmetry and drew people into his words. They had want of nothing, need of nothing, nor worry of anything, until now. Nut and Star were a complication which had not been foreseen.
