I have found that this problem only manifests itself when I have formatting issues when I type. For instance the most common issue with formatting has been the text I am typing runs into the separator line between messages. I started noticing that when I clicked in the text box to begin typing that there was a letter size gap between the type cursor and the text box wall. I was having the blank letter issue until I started clicking in said gap. You will notice that this moves the type cursor back one space and when you begin to type, your text will not run into the separator thus causing no formatting issues. I tested it one day and sent two replies to someone. One reply started in the default position and in the other one I clicked in the gap and moved the cursor back one space. The message that was typed in the default position came through as a blank to the recipient, however the one that I had moved back went through perfectly fine. I'm using a Samsung Focus. If others could test this "fix" on their device we might be able to put this issue to bed.
