It is kind of permanent. Resets every 15 days

Just wondering if this in any way might affect the review competition. Might it be replacing it? And of not, what if the winner of both competitions is the same person.

If the winner of both is the same they're really lucky.
It won't effect the reviews at all.

I've got some questions I need to clear up.

1) the event says grand battle. Does this mean we will have a tournament of sorts to battle o the death or something? Or is the winner just with the most prestige? I can't see how the battle thing would work.

2) 4th place is 300 coins and 5th is 100... So why is 6th 5000 coins? Was that a typo?

1.) There will be a ranking list of all participants and winners will be awarded rewards according to rankings. Just like on normal servers.

2.) 500 6th Prizes -- 3,000 in-game prestige and 5,000 in-game money for each.

There shouldn't be beginner protection in pvp.

It's the first time they've had a PvP Server. It's not going to be perfect.
