Best Location to Create a New City

Well after a month of playing, I've finally gotten to the point of creating a new (extra) city. :D Only, I have read in at least one post that you should make sure that city is located far away from your main city. If this is true, what are the reasons?

I checked around on my server, and most of the people with at least one extra city have it located right next to the Main City. I followed that lead, but will move the extra city if I get a good explanation here as to why I should.

All you vets, please help ;)

I like to put my subs close by so that you can spread your army out among those citys and still be able to put them all back in one city when being attacked.

Re: Best Location to Create a New City

I put my subs close to me so that I can teleport around when needed :) I know of others who put subs far away but fort hop between em, either one works realy

Hmm tough to say. Well if you don't want to lose it and aren't afraid of pissing high lvl players off I suggest having a city far away from your main. This will make it nearly impossible to find:) When players search you on the map they are taken to your main, not your sub, so there is no way to find a city that can be taken (sub)!

Re: Best Location to Create a New City

Thanks for the responses vets. So far all are good, informative and all over the map

A lot of options:

1) My server is as new as I am; a month old. Not too cut-throat yet - thx BioREX

2) Does distance between cities inhibit troop movement between them? i.e., if my cities are far apart, does that mean that I can't pool them together into one city in case I am attacked the way that K2700 mentioned?

3) I'm not ready to take a fort yet, but when I am, I wanna keep the fort hopping thing (I'll figure out what that is later) in mind - thx nIcKrOx

4) I'm sure I will make enemies along the way. I think I'll keep city where it is now, but future cities will probably follow the keep them far away from Main so enemies can't find them by searching my name. - thx fire428

5) I'll read that thread - thx Nathan05

6) I'd greatly appreciate anyone else's input! :D

Re: Best Location to Create a New City

Mine and K2700's post are mainly the same about far away forts, you can dispatch troops between cities but the further away they are the longer the dispatch takes. The fort hop thing let's you move troops from cities 3 hours away in less than 3 minutes :D

in a nutshell, you take Fort B with City A (fort B is located right next to city B) and you take fort A with City B (fort A is right next to city A)

When you own both forts you can dispatch troops from City A to Fort A, and when you hit callback the troops in Fort A get called back to the city the fort was taken from, City B.... And vice versa :)
