A thought on level 18

This is just a thought, but I am thinking under the current Haypi system, wouldn't it actually be more beneficial if when I reached 3.6 million prestige (lvl18) that I do not actually get reward to upgrade title.

I have upgraded on my current server but since I am the only level 18 on the server, would it not be beneficial if I kept my title at level 17, that way I will earn more prestige when I build army and suffer a slightly less level penalty when I attack someone for prestige.

This is also due to the fact that level 18 do not offer any extra bonuses such as additional oasis/fort/city slots, the 10 points of stats and 7 points of skill points are nice but certainly don't make too much difference at this level.

So does the benefit of upgrading to level 18 (other similar levels included level 14 and level 8) outweigh the advantage of retaining the title of level 17? Does it allow for a faster rate to reach level 19 if you didn't upgrade? Would the advice that stay as level 17 even when you have enough prestige to level up actually not being completely crazy?

I always advise people to level as soon as possible because when you level it keep you from losing prestige so if at lvl 18 you level and then get hit you can only lose prestige to what you needed to level. If you wait to level there is a possibility that you can lose a lot more prestige if you are attacked. Also you gain skill and attribute points at each level which can be beneficial but ultimately it's up to you since you are right the "penalty" for attacking low levels with increase :/

While Sybil is right, I am in the same boat as you, bb.
at 3.8 million prestige, I have been able to level up for some time, but opt against it for the exact reasons you mention. The extra 10 points I'd get to spend on attributes is pretty (but not completely) moot when it comes to making me more powerful, cuz I already am far more powerful than most on the server.
I'm keeping my level up for a rainy day, when I'd like to quickly help my alliance out with a boost of prestige, or when more people start reaching lv 17-18.

AFAIK the prestige per troop trained modifier & the battle coefficient is based on your CIV level, and not your title level. i.e. upon hitting 3.8 mil you will automatically start taking the "penalty" of the lvl up.

I'm 99% sure this is true, as in PVP I held as a lvl 3 to maintain protection yet was a level 7 in prestige terms - my pr gained seemed to be lower than when I was at lvl 3 proper.

If no one confirms this ... I may make a test account just to trial it.

Ever since the new update, I discovered your level no longer goes up when you get the proper prestige, but rather when you complete the task, unlike how it was previously.

However, I've yet to test to see if it affects prestige. That will require more testing

Yes even with almost 4 million prestige, my level shows as 17 on the map.

i'd probably do this when i hit 3.6mil pres lol, question is do i wanna be two titles behind u xD (im assuming you will hit king before i hit 3.6mil lol)
