Thread Locking, Excessive?

Every other forum I have been in, the threads don't get locked unless a problem occurs in one of them. This is the first forum I've ever seen that the thread gets locked after a question is answered. I think this hurts the effectiveness of the forums. People can't post follow up questions, and in some cases (the one that caused me to make this post) people ask a question on why something is happening and ask for advice on what they should do different, once their question is answered, the forum gets locked and people can't give him advice.

For a forum that is here so people can learn, it's getting a little harder to help people out.

Before you answer with "Well, you can PM him". I know that, and I will PM him, but do you really want to make it harder for people to give advice? What's the big deal with needing to lock threads ASAP?

Re: Thread Locking, Excessive?

Once a thread has been answered, it is locked because the player who made the thread in the beginning got the answer. If he/she wanted to ask another question, he/she would make another thread. I think it's all about staying on topic.

Re: Thread Locking, Excessive?

Sadly on an inactive forum like this, after a question is answered the threads tend to take a turn for off-topicness. After the original poster has replied, they're locked

Re: Thread Locking, Excessive?

we must also take into consideration, all of the repeat questions. if we let all of them go without being locked, then we would have a forum full of the same questions.

Re: Thread Locking, Excessive?

I actually agree that the locking is excessive (sorry!).
See, there are always branches of a topic, and more that can be said.
Locking is really only to limit post count, in my opinion I'd rather be cleaning up a few threads of particular posts than having 7 pages of new posts to sort through with half of them the same topic!

Re: Thread Locking, Excessive?

Yeah. A thread should be locked if it breaks haypi rules, or gets out of control. But the cods are used to locking whatever they want, probly won't change

Re: Thread Locking, Excessive?

i agree darkon. but i still don't think we would have such excessive locked topics, if we didn't have so many repeat threads.
