The Filter?

Okay, so I know avoiding the filter is mutable, but what about just talking and a word is starred? I thought the reason we had the filter was to prevent people from reading it. Now I understand if they avoid it they should be muted, but why should people be muted for letting the filter do it's job.

I'm just curious because a lot of people ask why we have the filter if it still gets them in trouble, I understand their are kids and stuff that play, but if the filter is doing the work, then why do experts mute them?

Thanks, Gabe12. The wonderful 30 day!! (inside joke)

Re: The Filter?

We are always doing our utmost to keep a friendly chat environment, so we have the filter. Actually the filter is being updated right now to make it work more effectively.

But it is extremely hard for the filter to prevent any improper language precisely so we need the help of our experts and our players.

We think we have much to do to make our chat more well civilized for each player.

Re: The Filter?

Well I know you guys are updating the filter (which I think will be awesome)

But why do experts mute people for NOT avoiding the filter, but just using bad language?

Re: The Filter?

Why wouldnt u mute some1 using bad language? its not polite or civilized and let alone its immature. then u can almost always understand them and it just gets annoying

Re: The Filter?

You're not understanding, not all words censored are bad words, but in other game's i've played, the only way people get muted is for avoiding. The point of the filter is so that younger kids can't read it, or talk about it.

Re: The Filter?

personally i believe the filter is used to try to keep haypi polite and civilized and any1 whose playing hayppi has probably seen a bad word and im 21 and still find itannoying and with 1 expert life in s12 is miserable

Re: The Filter?

Yes, but I know some people who their parents do not want them around anything thats not rated pg, yes I'm in high school, yes it is very sad that they do that but still.

I'm not complaining about the filter, i'm more of talking about why do experts mute for not avoiding?

Re: The Filter?

I believe that is usually dependent on the expert in question and how they interpret the post.
Some players may do this deliberately I guess - I'm not sure.

I usually ignore stars unless they're constant in which case I ask them to tone it down.
Even if the filter isn't avoided and it's just starts, having stars in every sentence to mask cussing is extremely negative many times directed offense at another player.

All based on the individual circumstance, I'd say.

Re: The Filter?

It is rather annoying not to be able to say "glass" "class" and "cucumber" though... among others. I think avoiding filter in those situations should be acceptable. Some experts would disagree perhaps...
Ahhh my favourite brain soup... cream of nowhere...
