Maximizing Prestige

So early today I asked around on my server chat to figure out which unit would give me the most prestige for the least cost of minerals. I found that no one really knew. This is important for people who have already maxed out the upgrades on most of their cities and already hold a substantial army and don't have the crop production to hold on to more soldiers. Building soldiers is the only way to gain prestige after you've built up your city other than taking it from your neighbors. If you're not keen on ticking off your neighbors or maybe they're simple bigger and badder than you are, then you're stuck with building units and tossing them away at some fort or oasis to gain prestige.

Thus I set about to make a few calculations. Using the currently most common market values on server 2:
Wood: 0.03
Stone: 0.01
Iron: 0.03
Crop: 0.03

I found that foot soldiers provided the most prestige at 11.2 gold per prestige. Archers were 11.9, Cavs 11.8, Cats ~14.1.

The market prices on iron and wood tend to very between 0.03-0.04 and crop 0.02-0.03. However, even at 0.04 for iron, foot soldiers are still the most efficient.

Prices on servers with less developed players tend to be a lot higher and vary significantly more, so foot soldiers may not be the best choice. But for the stable markets, its probably foot soldiers.

Hope you found this useful!

Re: Maximizing Prestige

i think u should not base on resource priceas it varies server to server. but rather based on prestige gained per unit with max warehouse. cav gives better prestige than cats tho

Re: Maximizing Prestige

ressources are often no problem: the highest problem is the time troopsn need to be built... and there catapults are better then all other troops

Re: Maximizing Prestige

You also need to think about troop building time. It only takes a little under 5 hours to build 249 cats while it takes over 15 hours to build the same amount of prestige in infantry.
A little bit of overkill never hurt anyone!

Look at the guide. It shows what gives the most prestige based on time and resources.
