Re: *Language for World Chat*

Coming from a non-expert here, I think it's already hard enough for the experts with the level of immaturity that is out there. Those spamming/cursing in other languages, are making it worst for everyone, not just for the experts. I believe that any non-expert that understands a certain language used in WC, and the expert doesn't know if it's abusive or legitimate, that person could lend the expert a hand.

I totally agree with Tracy and adina.this has no racist influence.it is from the perspective of moderating the immaturity held within world chat on s10.
People seem to abuse the freedom given to them by the word "preferred",and use that freedom to justify Their actions of spamming constantly in another language other than English. Then claming that we are raciest people and hate other languages/cultures.

Yes, thats all fine and good. But seriously I cant moderate if they are speaking in other languages. Ive spent time to translate a few of them and they are being abuse. I dont have the time to translate every foriegn post.
For the sake of peace in WC i believe there need to be a policy that they speak english.

Its not racist, its fair to experts and players alike.

i agree. if people are using non english, it will be very difficult to moderate. keep foreign language to minimal or bring it to ac or pm

Re: *Language for World Chat*

it's racist for the following reason:

99.99% of the swearing and spamming happens in English. To think that alienating everyone whose native language isn't English is an ok thing to do just to address .01% of the problem shows that people just don't care about the concerns of people who don't look/act/talk like the dominant culture.

I understand that the experts honestly think they are addressing the swearing issue. But thinking that this is more important than having an inclusive community shows values out of whack.

Anyway, support has already said that we can't be muted for chatting in other languages. Apparently, not all of the experts think they have to abide by this decision. Hopefully, the experts will soon fall in line and we can put this ugly episode behind us.

Re: *Language for World Chat*

Racism doesn't always mean consciously hating others. In this case it means exaggerating the concerns of the dominant group and minimizing or ignoring the concerns of people we can't relate to.

Adina says "Other players feel left out of the community when they cannot understand what others are saying." What about those who feel left out because they were punished for speaking their native tongue? What about those who feel left out because they aren't comfortable chatting in English?

The ability to sympathize with such a minor concern (they can just ignore the posts they don't understand) from people who look and sound like you, and then totally disregard the concerns of others, is discrimination.

Aateeters: If speaking their native language was that important, they wouldn't have downloaded an ENGLISH game....I understand your points to a degree, but chat can not be moderated properly when the experts can't understand what's being said. We are not being RACIST, we are being practicle,I would appreciate it if you would stop calling us racist, it is offensive. Thank you

Re: *Language for World Chat*

Well this thread is full of ideas and opinions. Also, for those of you who have said that this is racist, you need to look up racist on the online dictionary or get out in reality more. Racism is when you make an offensive comment towards another race. We are NOT making fun or making racist remarks towards other races. We are talking about the usage of language on the world chat. That, people, is not racist.
