You've known someone to never build cats or are we talking theory here?
As far as the 6 times speed, while maxed tech/speed cats travel time is 2.5 x destination. Horses march rate = x .42.

I don't know if this post is to support my point or contradict it but:

2.5 (cat time)/.42 (cav time) = 5.95

By "like" 6 times faster, I did mean approximately 6 times faster. I was off by less than 1%.

And Gabe12 I think you're misunderstanding, cavs are twice as fast as infantry, cats are 1/3 as fast as infantry, making cats approximately 6 times as fast as cats.

My statement was a fact. Maybe you think I'm being defensive because you countered my argument. I'm not. You're right in that travel time is dramatically increased. My statement was nobody should go cav only
the entire time. You may be able to switch at high lvl but it's not benificial at low lvl. A lower lvl player only invests in speed kills inf at about 2.1 ratio. Even with 8 shooting a lvl 3 fort with basic attack is taken with roughly 635 cat. With only horses it takes like 5-6k? 635 cat costs a total of 2.4ish million resources and the min swords to carry all resources in 1 hit is another 1.5 mill. 5000 horses costs 9.7 million to build. The ratio we're
trying compare now is time vs cost.

Cost: 9.7k vs 3.9k cost = 2.49
Time: 2.5/.42 = 5.95
Time with rounds: march (2.5/.42) / rounds (120/270) = 13.52

On the surface it looks like you're right. Especially with the concept you can take forts in 4 rounds instead of 9. My math may be wrong, I'm not sure. The problem with your theory is that the time ratio is going to be waaaaaaaaay less because one pauses to scout full forts, handle other attacks, chat, deal with rl etc. On top of that I'm not even considering manpower, barracks time, the fact one must have high defense/healing, Etc. The strategy to not build cat may work. I'm not sure it's the best though and lean heavily toward it not being, especially for low lvl players.

Oh yea I understand it now. I was basing cav's off of just normal moving. Cav's are 6 times faster to cats since cat's speed are 50.

Rees, I completely agree with you, I was referring to end game. I think that a full cav army wouldn't be viable until you have max speed, and high defense (maybe full max equipment too)

And I think your math is off on how many you'd need, but your point still stands even if we would need less cavs, so no point in calculating it.

However! You can take those real life breaks with cat fort farming too. Although real life breaks don't take 6 times as long just because you're using cats LOL.
