You have to realize that the break cranny skill takes 0-50% of resources that is available in the cranny.
Example.
Player A has 90k of each resource with a lvl 20 cranny.
Player B has lvl 10 break cranny.
If Player B attacks player A, (assuming that player B has a lot of troops) player B will gain 40k of each resource, lowering player A's resources to 50k of each time.
50k = 50% of 100k resources a level 20 cranny can hold.
Hence the end result, player A is left with 50k and cannot lose anymore than that due to their not being a higher lvl break cranny skill available.
Again fortune has nothing to do with this scenario.
